"Oh!" Sofia looked at the little Pokémon. It didn't look scary at all, which calmed her down. It also didn't look regal or elegant. True, Vexsis hadn't been these things, either, but he had still been more...refined. This Pokémon reminded Sofia of maybe a stray dog: Not very well-groomed, but in a way still adorable with its brown eyes. And probably full of fleas. Ugh.
"Hello there." Lacuna nodded at the other Pokémon. "Are you alright? That sounded like quite a commotion right now."
Akina glanced at Sofia, who silently watched the scene. Since the girl hadn't really spoked up, Akina guessed she didn't really know what to think of the newcomer yet. Which was probably a good thing - the Vulpix had the idea that Sofia's words concerning the slightly ruffled appearance wouldn't be all that kind. Luckily, her trainer seemed to have a soft spot for cute Pokémon, though. "Can we help somehow?" she asked. It would do Sofia good to interact with common Pokémon, too.

Once the Zigzagoon had managed to catch its breath, the Pokemon nodded its head in response to the Ponyta's question. "I was attacked," it explained. "Many of the Poochyena in this forest have some...violent tendencies." Despite its unkempt appearance, the Pokemon held a voice that seemed rather sure of itself, rather than frightened or uncomfortable. It didn't tend to have problems with other Pokemon or their trainers. "It is not all that easy to get away when you are ganged up upon, but fight I will." That would have explained the growling. It had ran off when they attempted to attack it in a group, managing to have one singled out in the end. It was a much more fair fight that way, but that didn't prevent it from being taken by surprise and forced into a tree. "Your shouting startled my opponent and they fled."

"Oh no, how horrible!" Sofia gasped. She had no idea what a Poochyena was, but violent Pokémon ganging up on others didn't sound very good to her. In fact, it sounded very bad. Maybe some were still around? She looked left and right, but couldn't see anything.
Lacuna had a certain idea that Sofia's exclamation had been made more out of fear for her own wellbeing than because of the poor Zigzagoon, but the poor Pokémon didn't need to know that. "Indeed. You did good, but you seem tired. I don't want to insult your fighting skills, but it was perhaps good we scared your attacker away."
"Will they come back, though?" Akina wondered. "Neither you nor us seem to be much in the mood for a fight against a group of Poochyenas."
Sofia leaned forward, decided to find out some crucial information by right now ignoring that this Pokémon obviously rather liked fighting and was also obviously a commoner. "Please forgive my blunt question, but we are quite lost in this forest. Are these Poochyenas like dogs roaming near the town to eat the trash left in the garbage cans of the humans or are they creatures living deep in the forest, attacking lost souls?"
"If you want to know if it knows if it's far until the town, then ask just that", Lacuna said rather amused. Sofia pouted. It was hard to be a noble sometimes.

The wild Pokemon blinked a few times as Sofia spoke. Did she really have to ask questions in such a round-about way? It made it so difficult to make sense out of it and answer her intended questions properly. The Zigzagoon chuckled, though, with Lacuna's statement.
"You sound a lot like a funny looking Koffing I saw some while ago," it stated, its eyes on the elegantly dressed human. "Poochyena are found both deep in the forest and in cities, as far as I am aware, so that question wouldn't have gotten you too far, I'm afraid. I don't think the town is all that far away now, though, but I could be wrong."

Sofia blinked. A funny-looking Koffing? She had no idea what a Koffing was. Hopefully something refined and elegant and smart. Not sure if she had been insulted right now or not, she was, however, glad that she got at least a bit of information. "Thank you. I pray you are right and that the town is close. With those dastardly Pokémon running around, I hope to find shelter soon." But really, those Poochyenas were everywhere? Why did no one do anything about such a problem?
"Thank you for the information." Lacuna nodded. "Is there anything we can do for you in return? I don't exactly want to leave you behind if you are exhausted and there is a chance that attacks on you will resume."
"Huh?" Had Lacuna just implied they should stay here? "Lacuna, we don't have any time to spare, really. We need to find a place for the night!"
"And leave someone in trouble alone? That's not a very nice thing to do, Sofia." Akina looked at her.
"Well, I am sure that, as someone living in this forest, this brave Pokémon has its own ways of staying out of harm now. If these Poochyenas are everywhere, these things should be a terrible, if common, occurance. I am sure it will be fine. In fact, is it not more likely that we all become target of an attack if we remain standing here, especially as a group? Should we not all move on?"
"There is strength in numbers, but Sofia does have a point. Standing here will only get us in trouble." Lacuna looked at the Zigzagoon questioningly. He wanted to help, but in the end, he couldn't completely ignore his trainer's wishes and she did have a point. They needed to find the town soon.

The Zigzagoon nodded its head, having listened to Lacuna's thanks. "It is no problem at all,"it assured. Despite being a wild Pokemon and, apparently, a battler of all things, it seemed that the raccoon Pokemon was fairly well mannered. Not every wild Pokemon was a brute, after all, and many were just quite misunderstood.
With all of the chatter between the trainer and her Pokemon, the wild Pokemon remained silent, listening to the lot speak. The trainer was concerned about their safety in staying in the forest more so than anything else, clearly. If that was so, it wouldn't bother them with fight challenges or some such, despite wanting to.
"The Poochyenas don't much like attacking groups, actually, so you should be well and safe." It finally spoke again, making sure to be heard. "Worry not about me, though, I wouldn't want to slow you down. I'm planning to travel back to my part of the forest. There are other Zigzagoon that I live with, so I should be fine once I get there." If they didn't want to stick around, it wasn't going to keep them there.

Sofia was indeed quite surprised and pleased by the manners of the Zigzagoon. "I am sorry to be in such a hurry", she assured. "I understand my companion's wish to help, but I have arrived in this world just today and have no experience or wish to fight a battle, so I just want to reach the town and safety."
She was quite glad to hear their group would be safe. "Oh..." Her voice grew soft. "You have a family." While the Zigzagoon had not really said that, this was how Sofia interpreted his words. "Yes, you should return then. Maybe they are worried about you by now."
"Sofia..." Akina looked up. Clearly, the girl was sad again, thinking about her own family.
"I am alright." Sofia nodded quickly. She would not cry again. "Dear Pokémon, I wish you a safe journey back to your family and hope you will remain unharmed."
"Indeed." Lacuna agreed. "Thank you again for the information. Maybe we shall meet again some day." After all, his trainer would probably travel to the shrine a lot, so there was always the possibility. Quite actually, Lacuna was glad that the Zigzagoon had not issued a challenge; that would have scared Sofia away, right after she had obviously been surprised how nice the wild-looking Pokémon was - a good lesson for her.
"Take care", Akina added as well.

The little group returned to the path from where they had left it to meet the Zigzagoon. The little talk had taken quite a bit of time and the sun was sinking low by now. Sofia grew increasingly worried. "Let's hope it's really not that far anymore..." It was also getting colder. She rubbed her arms.
Lacuna noticed that, even though he could hardly see Sofia on his back. He increased the warmth of his flames a bit and Sofia stroked his fur gratefully. Now, with the sun going down, Lacuna's flames seemed to shine quite brightly.
Akina seemed to think the same. "At least we have light, even if it gets dark", she said cheerfully.
"Yes, but imagine what that light might attract! Insects! Spiders! Moths!" Sofia shuddered.
"I'm more worried about wild Pokémon", Lacuna added with a bit of a laugh.

They travelled on. Lacuna had the feeling that the path was getting wider and more prominent, but he didn't voice these thoughts in case they might have been wrong. The light was fading quickly now and the first stars started to shine.
Sofia was starting to panic more and more. This was not good! She was stuck in a forest. At night. With wild Poochyenas - whatever they were - and possibly other evil creatures she had never seen before. There was no bed here, no food, no anything at all.
"Sofia, calm down. Look!" Akina suddenly sounded quite cheerfully. "I can see lights!"
"What?!" Sofia looked up from her hands, with which she had been clutching her dress. Indeed, it was so dark by now she could see some lights shining through the trees up ahead. "The town! The town! Finally!"
"I admit I'm glad", Lacuna admitted, being quite relieved. A night in the forest with a scared girl was not his idea of fun, after all.

Excited and pushing away how hungry and tired she was, Sofia excitedly looked around how the trees slowly gave way to the town and the forest ground under Lacuna's hooves started becoming a real path. They had made it! Just in time for the night! Hopefully, they would find a place to stay quickly and where they could get some food. Surely, all shops were closed by now. " Let's hurry now. Even a town is not safe at night. We might get mugged or something. Not that we have much to begin with, but my clothes are silk and you two look rare, so we might - luckily - appear richer than we are." " Yes, Ma'am." Lacuna sighed. Sofia was quite difficult to endure sometimes and that after just one day of travel. Hopefully, meeting other humans would do the girl much good. Now she had the chance to see finally much more of this new world than just a forest. But a place for the night was the first priority, yes. And with these thoughts, the little group left the forest and entered Ruelda town. (50 posts. Leaving the forest and entering Ruelda.)
