Rizen stared at the building warily. What was a laboratory doing in the middle of a place like this? This whole situation was so weird... His last memory was falling off a cliff, and a strange note that read "Say goodbye", and now he was in an unknown world with his metal wings seemingly melded onto his back... The lab didn't look old at all. In fact, it seemed extremely new, so perhaps there would be people inside. Rizen opened up the doors and gazed around. He couldn't see anybody yet. "Hello?" he called out, frowning at his surroundings. He had so many questions...and he really wanted the answers.

Rizen was almost immediately greeted by a Gardevoir adorning a laboratory coat that appeared from a room conjoined to the main room. Oddly, she was holding a pokedex within one of her hands. "Hello," she greeted, her voice kind and almost cheerful. Naturally, Maevia had a kind disposition. She eyed the newcomer carefully, a smile on her face. From what she could tell, he appeared to be a Pokemorph, but her psychic sense told her that this may have been entirely so. How very interesting. "Welcome to my laboratory," she chimed in. "You look a little lost. How may I help you?"

Rizen almost jumped a few feet into the air when he saw a Gardevoir stroll out of an adjacent room. Strangely enough, it was wearing a labcoat. Also strange was the fact that it was holding a Pokedex in its hand. But the strangest thing of all was that it spoke.
"Hello," it had said. "Welcome to my laboratory. You look a little lost. How may I help you?"
Rizen almost fainted on the spot. Since when did Pokemon speak?! And when did a Pokemon own a lab? He shook his head and pinched his arm, wanting to make sure it wasn't a dream. He felt a bit of pain. He wasn't dreaming.
What was going on?
"I- I'm," he stammered, blinking at the Gardevoir. "I'm...Rizen. Uh...where am I?"

The lab coat-adorned Gardevoir held her free hand up to her mouth delicately, politely with holding the chuckle that wanted to escape. The reaction this young man had was the most amusing one that she could ever recall. Poor thing. She must have given him quite the fright.
"I am sorry for scaring you," she said warmly, once she was able to compose herself, her voice apologetic. "My name is Maevia and it is a pleasure to meet you, Rizen. You are currently at my laboratory, which is the main laboratory of the Trilotics region. We are surrounded by the Mystic Forest."

Rizen took a deep breath and steadied himself. Ok. So the Gardevoir...Maevia, was it? This was her lab? He never thought a Pokemon could own a lab. Back in Hoenn, there was a guy by the name of Professor Birch who studied Pokemon at a lab. The Pokemorph wondered if Maevia could be considered like Professor Birch.
"It's nice to meet you too," he said, still rather shaken. "What...what is this place? I've never heard of a Trilotics region. I came from Verdanturf, in Hoenn. Do you happen to know how to get there? I suddenly found myself in the middle of a forest with these wings attached to my back, and I have no idea how I ended up here..."

Maevia frowned slightly, fearing that she had shaken up the poor young man just a little too much. He did manage to continue on and ask her questions, though, which seemed like a step in a good direction.
"I am not sure where Hoenn lies from here, but I am afraid to tell you that the likelihood of getting back is... more than just a million to one. The region of Trilotics is not connected, nor is it near any of the known regions. In fact, Trilotics is considered impossible to leave once you are here..." The Gardevoir hated having to speak such terrible news to the new trainers, she always had some sympathy for them, but she was actually delighted when new trainers came. It was a mixed bundle of emotions, indeed.
Maevia sighed. "I'm sorry to be the one to bring such news, but I still may be able to help you. I am the professor of this laboratory. Perhaps you have heard of the professors that often gave out Pokemon to starting trainers? That is one of my many responsibilities, among helping the newcomers to this world get settled in. You are not the first to appear here suddenly," she explained. "Wait. You said that those wings were attached to your back?"

Rizen's face dropped a bit. Was it seriously impossible to get back to Hoenn from here? How could he have traveled so far away in such a short time? He recalled that after he had crashed during his test flight, a note had drifted down from the sky, telling him to "say goodbye", or something like that.
Did it mean that he would be taken here?
Then Rizen reminded himself about why he built the wings in the first place. He had wanted to get out of Verdanturf and go somewhere new, and now he was in Trilotics. Shouldn't he be happier? But everything was so strange here, and he couldn't quite get used to it yet. Perhaps if he spent a little more time... But was he to be stuck in this place forever?
He snapped out of his daze when asked about the wings. "Uh, yes," he answered, rubbing the back of his head. "I built them back in Hoenn, but when I got here..." He flapped them once. "They...uh...seemed to have become a part of me..."

Maevia had a small spark of curiosity about Rizen's thoughts, considering he was silent for so long after she explained. She was worried, naturally, among other things.
"That is very interesting," she commented as he explained about his wings. "Unusual, actually." She almost laughed at how ironic it was that a Pokemon that was speaking clearly to a human was commenting about something being unusual. "It would explain why I sensed that you were not like other Pokemorphs, you were human only not to long ago, and you are not like the other Pokemorphs either. If you knew how Pokemorphs were created artificially, perhaps it would make more sense. It's terribly tragic, actually." She said, frowning slightly. "But if those wings became a part of you in your journey here... Perhaps it was your destiny."

Rizen frowned and raised an eyebrow. "Poke...morph?" It was not a term he was familiar with. "Artificial Pokemoprhs? My destiny?" He rubbed his temple with his fingers. "I'm so lost... Are you saying...I'm not human anymore? I'm a...Pokemorph, and I'm supposed to be like this?"
Then he remembered one of the other reasons he created the metal wings. One day he had seen what appeared to be a human girl flying in the sky with the wings of a Pokemon. Maybe that was a Pokemorph, and he somehow become like that girl in coming to Trilotics.
It troubled him to hear that he was special in some way. Was that good or bad? The idea of having Pokemon body parts was troubling already. But maybe his wings would finally work now.

"Oh dear..."
Maevia had gone on about something that Rizen didn't know about, apparently. That must have only served to confuse him even more. "I forgot that not all humans were aware of the existence of Pokemorphs, as rare as they are in the other regions. Pokemorphs, or morphs, are humans that carry traits of Pokemon, sometimes even more than one. Some look human but can transform into a Pokemon. Others carry physical traits of Pokemon, and only that. Then there are some that show some physical traits of Pokemon and can transform into them. Really, 'Pokemorph' is a very basic term, given all the variations." Maevia paused for a moment to allow Rizen to absorb what she was telling him, seeing as it was a lot to take in. Before long, she continued, "Most Pokemorphs exist either by a human being experimented on or when a Pokemorph has an offspring, there is a chance that the genetics may pass on. Your case is very different, if your wings were artificial and became real here. I would guess that to be the work of a legendary Pokemon. At least, that is the only guess that I have. That being the case, as I said, maybe you were destined to be this way."

Ah, so it appeared he was right about that flying girl being a Pokemorph. "Before I came here," he said, "I saw a girl who had wings flying around... I guess she was a Pokemorph." He glanced over his shoulder at the metal wings again, wondering how they possibly came to be real ones. Were legendary Pokemon really that powerful? He had only heard rumors about the strength of the legendaries. Never had he seen one for himself.
He then remembered Maevia saying something about giving Pokemon to trainers. "So other trainers come by here? I guess this place isn't as deserted as I thought it was..." Maybe finding one of the trainers could help him figure out what was going on. "You said you give Pokemon to them, like the professors in other regions? Could I...maybe see your Pokemon?" Rizen never had a Pokemon before. Sometimes he thought it could be interesting. How did one take care of a Pokemon? And what kind of relation would they have if they could understand each others' speech? He was intrigued.

At this moment from the adjacent room an Igglybuff rolled into the room going "Bloop, bloop, bloop" all the way to Rizen's feet. She looked up at him and set a Soda Pop on the floor before him. She then quickly rolled back into the room making the same "Bloop, bloop, bloop" as she left.

So he had seen a Pokemorph before and had just never realized it? It sounded like the girl he described was, in fact, a Pokemorph. Was that what had inspired him to create artificial wings and attempt to fly? "That is interesting. Many Pokemorphs attempt to live outside of human influence, as there have been several humans that treat them differently."
"Of course you may see the Pokemon that we have!" Maevia replied when Rizen had asked. She turned her back to the Pokemorph and, while she was facing away, the heard the strange noise that the Igglybuff had made. She only shook her head, rather than turning around right away. She brought up the list of Pokemon that they had available on the monitor of one of the machines near the back of the room. "You are one of the few trainers that have all recently appeared. I doubt any of the newest members to our region have gotten out of the forest yet." She added, finally turning back to Rizen. By the time that she did, she only caught a glimpse of the tiny balloon Pokemon rolling back into another room. "That would be one of our...more unusual Pokemon. I'm afraid she wont ever get chosen, with as strange as she is." As Maevia said this, she was frowning. The poor little dear. "It seems as though she wanted you to have that, though." The professor pointed to the item not sitting at his feet. "You are welcome to keep it."
"The list of Pokemon we have can all be seen on this list here," she gestured toward the screen as she said this. "Once you choose one species, the machine will choose one of ours that is available for you."

Rizen blinked at the little Igglybuff as she dropped the Soda Pop at his feet. "Oh," he said, picking up the drink. "Um, thank you." He turned his attention back to the screen Maevia was talking about.
Some familiar species popped up on the list. Three he had seen in Hoenn: Treecko, Torchic, and Mudkip. The others seemed vaguely familiar. He wasn't really sure what he'd pick for his first Pokemon. He never had a Pokemon before and wasn't familiar with their strengths and weaknesses. But he supposed that whatever he picked, he couldn't go wrong...
He thought that he'd obtain one of the Hoenn starters, as a sort of reminder of his home in this strange land. Gazing over the three, he slowly lifted a finger and pointed at the picture of the Treecko.
"I'd like this one, please," he requested.

"A Treecko, huh? Not a bad choice." She wondered, for a moment, if he chose the Pokemon that he did because it was known as one of the starting Pokemon in Hoenn, his original home. However, she did not make any comment on it.
Maevia confirmed that his choice was a Treecko with the machine and, when she did, it instantly sprang to life with a whizzing noise and flickering buttons. In moments, a pokeball appeared in a depression on an otherwise flat surface of the machine.
"There you have it. A Treecko resides inside that pokeball, and it is now yours. You are its new trainer," the professor stated, smiling.
"Oh, just a moment, if you please," she added suddenly. She disappeared from the room she had come from when Rizen first entered the lab, returning shortly with a satchel in her hands. "I would like you to have this as well. It contains a bit of money and a few useful items, including your Pokedex."
