Tori groaned and blinked open her eyes. At first, she could only see blurs of green, brown, and blue, but as her vision cleared, she could make out a forest and the sky. Letting out another moan, the girl slowly rose to her feet, shaking out her limbs, staggering a bit from dizziness. "Huh..." Where was she? Did she somehow get away from those thugs? Where was Shadow? Tori looked around, but it seemed that she was the only person here. "Shadowwww?" Tori called the name of her Mightyena out into the forest, but there was no reply. Her heart began beating with dread. What was this strange place? How did she get here from Veilstone City? Confused and lost, Tori set out in a random direction, hoping to find some form of civilization. Eventually, she came to cleared out area that had a very modern looking building sitting in the middle of it. Surprised at the sight of the structure, Tori made her way towards it. Perhaps someone found Shadow and took him there. She entered the building to see a bunch of computers and other machines. Was this some kind of research center? She could not hear or see anyone, however.

Even though no one was in Tori's direct line of sight upon entering the laboratory, it was impossible to miss the distinct sound of clacking keys. At a computer on the other side of the large room, a chair swiveled around toward the doorway, now facing the girl. Rather than it being another human, however, there was a Pikachu. The clacking noise, of course, stopped when this happened, for it was no longer typing. Sparky stared at Tori for a moment, before shouting off toward another doorway, "She's here!" As usual, Maevia had sensed someone coming toward the laboratory with the use of her psychic abilities, so she warned her assistant before hand. When he turned back to their guest, Sparky dipped his head slightly. "Welcome to the Mystic Laboratory. How may we help you?"

Tori thought she could hear a noise like typing and swiveled in the direction of the sound. There was a large computer with a chair in front of it, and as soon as the girl's eyes landed on the chair, the typing stopped and the chair turned to reveal...a Pikachu?
She was utterly shocked when the Pikachu begain speaking to her. "Y-you talk?!" she gasped, stepping back slightly. She had never, ever heard a Pokemon talk before. Could the Pikachu understand her as well? And it seemed that the Pikachu knew that Tori would be coming. "I...I'm looking for my Mightyena. I suddenly woke up in this forest and...I don't know where he could be."
Tori gulped. She felt rather silly trying to have a full blown conversation with a Pokemon, but she was desperate to find Shadow.

"Well, of course I do. Nearly every Pokemon around here can talk," Sparky replied. It was easy to tell that his ability to speak had thrown the girl for a loop, but there wasn't much he could do about that. He smiled the best he could to be polite. "I'm afraid I haven't seen any Mightyena, but I imagine that you wont be able to find him around here..." The Pokemon trailed off for a moment, before speaking again. "It may seem like a shock to you, but I'm fairly sure that you're far away from home. This is the Trilotics region." And he was sure that it didn't ring any bells. "Oh, yes, my name is Sparky. I'm a laboratory assistant."

Even though the Pikachu spoke very gently, Tori could not help but feel confused and devastated. Shadow had been her partner ever since she was a child, and now he was just...gone?
"That...that can't be possible!" she cried. She could feel tears welling up in her eyes. Despite her words, Tori knew that Sparky was probably right. She had no idea where she was, no idea how she got here, and if Shadow was around then Sparky probably would have seen him. She sniffed and took a moment to wipe the tears from her face. "S-sorry," she stammered. "I just...he was my first partner, you know?"
Tori took a moment to glance around the lab and looked at the doorway Sparky had called to earlier. "Who were you shouting to, anyways?" she asked.

A frown came to the Pikachu's face when the tears began to well up in Tori's eyes. He was aware that these things could be difficult but, perhaps, there was still hope. "Its all right. There is no need to apologize. I am sure it is difficult to lose someone, but don't fret, you may meet your partner again one day. Everyone, humans and Pokemon alike, are brought here from their original homes, so don't give up hope." He tried to reassure her that everything would be okay and, hopefully, it helped, even if only a small degree.
"The professor is in the room over from here," he then explained in order to answer her question. "She's finishing up some paperwork again, getting it inputted into our computers, as was I. She's psychic, you see, so she usually senses when someone is coming near."

Tori was slightly comforted when Sparky said that Pokemon could be brought to Trilotics too, but she couldn't help wondering what were the chances of her meeting Shadow again. She was grateful for the Pikachu's words anyway, and she uttered a small, almost inaudible. "thank you."
Tori stared at the doorway next to Sparky for a moment before approaching it tentatively. Did Sparky mean a psychic human, or a Psychic Pokemon? Perhaps this professor could explain more to the poor, lost girl. "May...may I see her?" she asked the Pikachu. "If she's not too busy, I mean."

Sparky nodded his head in response to her thanks, once again wishing that there was more he could do for these sorts of trainers. He couldn't imagine what it would have been like to be separated from someone that they must have cared for so dearly. "Of course," he said, hopping down from his chair and walking upright toward the door. "But, I will tell you now, the professor is a Pokemon, too. And, as I am her assistant, she and I share our research. What she knows, I know. This region is fairly mysterious to both of us, as well, as it is to everyone, human and Pokemon alike." However, the Pikachu stuck his head into the doorway, shouting, "Maevia, as you can hear, I believe she would like to speak with you." Moments after Sparky stuck his head back out, a somewhat frazzled-looking Gardevoir, decked out in a white lab coat, appeared. Her smile was apologetic. "My apologies. Our current research is... well..." she sighed. "A little difficult to make sense of. I recently got back from a trip, you see, and we have been trying to input and make sense of my observations." "Oh, pardon me. My name is Maevia, as you may have heard. I prefer it, rather than being called Professor, since it was my name first."

So she is a Pokemon... Tori thought as Sparky walked to the door. But just what kind of Pokemon? It didn't take long for Tori to receive her answer. She blinked as a Gardevoir decked in a white lab coat walked inside the room.
"Wow..." she whispered to herself. She knew Gardevoirs were very powerful Pokemon although she had never owned one herself, but something about the fact that she could now talk to Pokemon made the professor seem even more impressive. "H-hi Maevia," Tori stammered, giving the professor a small, nervous smile. "I'm Tori. Um...I guess you heard all that stuff about Shadow..." Tori looked down at her sneakers for a moment. "Would you know if he was around...?"

Maevia smiled, her expression still warm. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Tori." She observed the trainer carefully, sensing some of Tori's feelings. It was plain as day that it was tragic to be separated from her original Pokemon partner. The Gardevoir's expression soon formed into a frown. "I'm sorry to say that I haven't sensed a Mightyena, at least not any that I didn't already recognize." Every now and then, there were a few of the wolf Pokemon that traveled the forest, but she already knew them from her time here.
Maevia placed her hand on Tori's shoulder, trying to reassure her. "I know that it is difficult, but everything will be all right. Things will work themselves out, somehow."

Tori looked up into the Gardevoir's eyes and sniffled a bit, nodding. "T-thanks," she stammered. Even if Shadow was lost, the girl was glad that Sparky and Maevia would help her in this strange land.
"So...why did I come here?" Tori asked, blinking at Maevia. "What might I be able to do here...? Are...are there other...people?" So far Tori had only seen two talking Pokemon and no humans.
