The sun was shining and there was a cool breeze to be felt. All in all, it was a pretty nice day. Nikki had stumbled across this place by accident and after reading the billboard, it seemed interesting enough to check out at least. She rather liked the idea of training opposed to battling so perhaps this would be a good place to start building her trainer skills. Hopefully here they could work comfortably amongst themselves without having to worry about actually injury. They weren't close enough to a town and her supplies would only carry her so far, after all. Behind her, Torch marched happily. Up on her shoulder rested Flutter, looking around curiously. The others were in their Pokeballs. Since this was her first time and all, she only wanted to start off with a couple of her team. Flutter and Torch seemed to need more training than Amp and Gents, Nikki thought. She knew that fire types seemed to be powerful for the most part and when Caterpie became Butterfree they could learn all sorts of useful moves. She was relying on them to be their strong offensive line for when they finally entered battles. The others would be trained as well, just slower. Her strategy might not have made since to many others but it did to her and that was all that mattered, right? Since entering the official grounds, they were now in a very rocky terrain of land. It still bordered a bit of a forested area as well, having the landscapes colliding a bit roughly. It looked as good as a place to start at. Stopping next to a partially uprooted stump, she rolled off her shoulder bag and looked around with a firm nod. "We can start here, I suppose."+1+

The trio looked around a bit stumped. [1] How exactly did one go about training here? [2] There were no other trainers and even if there were, they'd probably be too strong for her Pokemon. [3] Back home, their breeding facility did offer basic training for trainers' Pokemon ... but her mom had handled all that. [4] Nikki was only in charge of watching over the newly hatched Pokemon, feeding and cleaning, and nap time. [5] Her mother was more experienced in that field than her. [6] This was somewhat confusing... [7]
"Wha...what are we supposed to do?" Torch piped up. [8] Nikki turned to him, scratching her cheek a bit sheepishly. [9] "I ... I'm not sure, to be honest. [10] I know Pokemon get stronger by fighting other Pokemon but the only other one here is Flutter and I don't want to have you two fighting each other." [/b][/color] [11] Flutter let out a small squeak at the thought. [12] She'd have no chance, equal levels or not! [13] "I-I don't like that idea.", she agreed. [14] "Hmmm ..." [15] Nikki looked across the land in a slow sweep. [16] From what she could see, perhaps trainers had their Pokemon practice on the landscape itself. [17] She could see smashed boulders and torn and torched trees in a few places. [18] So was that how it went? [19] Having your Pokemon use their attacks on inanimate objects? [20] Well, she had to admit, it sounded safer that Pokemon on Pokemon fights. [21] Still though, it seemed like a shame. [22] The training grounds looked so beautiful, almost like a reserve of sorts. [23] Were people really aloud to just waltz on in and mess it all up like this? [24] She felt a bit bad to be adding to the damage, but if it helped her Pokemon grow stronger then she'd do it. Looking to Torch expectedly, she patted her little friend on the head before nodding. Then looking around quietly, she soon realized that this would be ... a bit difficult. At such a low levels, most of her Pokemon would only know a few moves. And most of them would be ... Hmm... Well, taking Torch for example. Scratch and Growl. Scratch was easy enough, maybe, but Growl? How would she train him further in that? It would look a bit silly to have him stand there just growling repeatedly.
...Scratch it was then. They would need to increase their attack strenght anyhow. Strong attacks equalled shorter battles and shorter battles equalled less injury. That's how it went most of the time, anyway. She'd watched many a battle on the TV. And in those cases, quickly ended battles meant victory. She'd follow that example. Then maybe she'd not turn out half bad at being a trainer then.
"Okay. See that tree there?" She pointed to a fairly short tree with a nice sized trunk. Just big enough for her Charmander to tackle effectively. Torch nodded. "Let's practice your Scratch attack. I want to see if we can cut it down!" Flutter looked at her trainer in surprise. "D-do you really think he can cut it down?", she asked in a skeptical tone. "Not sure, but we're going to find out!"

"Okay!" Running to get in front of his target, Torch raised his razor sharp claws up at the ready. On the signal from Nikki, he let loose on the trunk. Swipe after swipe, he kept at it until he had to stop for a rest.
Once it was safe to check things out, Nikki stepped forward, Flutter still perched firmly on her shoulder. She smiled as clear gash marks were left on the trunk. At least now she could see how strong he was! The gashes were pretty deep, but still not enough to break the tree yet. But they'd keep at it until then! Flutter wagged her tail happily. "Oh wow, he is strong! I bet he can clear this tree if he keeps trying!" Good thing Nikki hadn't suggested she fight Torch herself. Those claws of his could certainly deal some high damage...
Nikki giggled happily as she gave Torch a congradulatory pat on the head. He grinned proudly with a wag of his tail. He liked praise - it made him want to do better! It might not have looked like much to anyone else but to Nikki it was a marker on their way to growing stronger. She couldn't help but to be proud of her Pokemon. "Good! Now keep at it! Let's see if we can cut through that tree!" Torch answered her with a firm nod and turned back to the tree. Raising his claws once more, he started slashing at the trunk again. Bark started peeling off in pieces.

The more Torch worked at it, the deeper the gashes grew. Small amounts of sap began to trickle from the cuts and down the flaking trunk. Watching her teammate working so hard at improving his move, Flutter grew anxious to do her own training. She wanted to grow as well! She nudged Nikki excitedly. The young trainer turned and looked at her curiously. "Yes, Flutter? What is it?"
"I-I wanna train too! What do you want me to do?" Nikki smiled at the Caterpie's enthusiasm. It was good that they wanted to grow stronger. Leaving Torch for a moment to do his own thing, she turned and looked for something Flutter could do. For her moves, maybe working on Flutter's accuracy would be a good place to start. Yes, that'd be the way to go.
Looking up at another, taller tree, she got an idea. "Those branches up there, all spread out there? See it?" She pointed high up into the tree where many thin branches span out from eachother but were still in relatively close proximity. "Try to bundle them up with your String Shot." It was a bit of an odd request, but the Caterpie obliged and crawled down the girl and started up the tree. Reaching a branch as close to the designated spot as possible, the Caterpie eyed the branches in thought. She spat at one, a silky string flying from her mouth. First attempt, she failed. Instead her string had latched on to a much larger branch off to the side.

A bit discouraged, her antenna drooped a bit. Nikki gave a small chuckled and yelled up to her. "It's okay, Flutter. It was only your first try! Just keep trying!" The Caterpie nodded hesistantly. Aiming once more for that particular branch, she used String Shot once again. This time it went a little high, falling over the branch limply instead of wrapping around it firmly. But it was better than her first try!
"Not bad! Now try to get the others!", Nikki encouraged. Torch paused for a moment to watch Flutter. One shot and this time she hit one of the branches! The silk spun around it tightly, pulling it towards her slightly. She giggled with a tail wag. Torch smiled and waved up at her. "Nice shot! You got that one!"
She pulled the branch into her first one, inching along the branch in a maneuver. The sticky silk stuck together, holding the two branches close. A bit sloppy, but not bad! "Thanks!~" Feeling more confidence in her abilities, Flutter started working on the rest. As did Torch on his task. The two were encouraging each other; healthly competition, maybe? Whatever you would call it, it was a nice sight to see. Two Pokemon working hard for their trainer.
