Alas, here Nikki found herself, wandering about this strange forest with a head full of questions and no answers in sight. She let out a soft 'hmm' as she rounded the side of a large tree. Her eyes grew wide with surprise as she noticed a large building. She wondered what on earth a lone building was doing in the middle of a forest like this, but she didn't question it enough to just ignore it. Perhaps there was someone inside who could explain some things to her. Without giving it much of a second thought, she jogged up to the doors and gently pushed them open. Creaks and moans from the door echoed within the place, increasing the creepy factor of the whole thing. Nikki took a few steps in, leaving the door slightly cracked behind her. She opened her mouth, then raised a hand as if rethinking calling out. "Uh, um ... hello? Is ... is anyone here?" she spoke loudly, hoping her question would reach the ears of a resident. And preferably a helpful one ...

Though no reply came right away, there were voices that could be heard from another room. "No, no, Sparky, those papers go over there, and the stack from right there goes over there." It was only a moment after the voice spoke out, that it spoke again, with a different tone. "Oh, I hadn't even realized..." From a doorway that connected to the main room, the room where Nikki had found herself, a Gardevoir appeared, rubbing the back of its head with its hand. "I'm sorry, I didn't realize that someone was here," it said, sounding apologetic. "I take it that you've been a little lost? Either way, welcome to my laboratory."

A small smile of relief sprang onto Nikki's face as she heard a voice. "Oh good, a pers-!" She stopped mid-sentence with a gasp of surprise as the Gardevoir came into her sights. She hadn't been expecting a Pokemon to greet her, much less one that could talk! Could Pokemon talk in this place? Hmm, there was another question to add to that long mental list of hers.
Slowly, she came out of shock enough to answer the Pokemon. "Oh, uh, actually ... " She went silent, her shy nature kicking in, and she began to fiddle with her fingers. She quickly nodded in response to the question. Who wouldn't be lost in a world they had suddenly appeared in? Ah, speaking of that ... "Yes, I've found myself a little lost." she laughed nervously. "Could you ... tell me where I am ... exactly? Oh, and uh, thank you for the welcome." she added with a slight nod and smile.

The Gardevoir seemed quite amused by Nikki's reaction to realizing that it was Pokemon and not another human that she was speaking to. Nikki was the first new human to visit the laboratory since she had become the professor. At least she appeared to be taking it fairly well. Maevia wore a kind smile.
"I'm sorry if I startled you," she apologized kindly. "I suppose it must be rather unusual that a Pokemon is speaking to you, but I'm afraid it is the norm here." It was a good idea to give the human a fair warning, or so she thought. "You can have a seat and rest, if you want," she offered, gesturing toward a chair alongside the wall, beside a desk. "Not the most comfortable thing, but this is a lab."
She gave the girl a moment, letting her collect herself, before deciding to answer her question. "You have currently found yourself in the region of Trilotics, perhaps one of the newest inhabited regions. All get here in the same manner that you have, which is why this laboratory was now built in the middle of this forest. Mystic Forest, is the name, and this laboratory is referred to as The Mystic Laboratory."

Nikki happily accepted the invitation to sit and took her place in the chair. She hadn't walked too much since getting here, but being as used to the paved roads of the large city of Goldenrod as she was, her feet hadn't adjusted to the cluttered forest floor.
She giggled a bit and waved a hand at the Gardevoir's apology. "Oh it's fine. I had just never really seen a Pokemon that could talk before now. Ha, it was quite the shock for me, but I suppose I'll have to get used to it, right?" She smiled warmly at the Pokemon. Though it wasn't the norm for Nikki, she didn't have too hard a time of getting used to it. In fact, she actually felt more comfortable talking to this Pokemon Professor than most other people she knew. She had always liked Pokemon company over those of humans or Pokemorphs. She had a feeling she'd like this little ... twist.
"Region of the Trilotics?" she repeated. She couldn't recall ever hearing of the place. Back home, she wasn't much of a social butterfly so it didn't surprise her that she hadn't heard of it. Most news escaped her. "Sounds mysterious."
Her eyes shone with interest as she learned where she was. They certainly knew how to name the place, that was for sure. The Mystic Laboratory was certainly a fitting name. "Well ... I'm here now." She paused, giving the room a quick look around from her chair before letting her attention settle back onto the Professor. "And I haven't the slightest clue of what to do next." she laughed. And she couldn't be more honest. She looked for a bit of guidance from the Gardevoir since it seemed she knew quite a lot of this area.

Maevia was quick to notice that this human girl settled into the idea of understanding Pokemon very easily, more easily than she had expected of the girl that once acted so timid. It obvious that she was opening up to her easily enough, which almost made the Gardevoir proud in some strange way.
"Indeed, you will have to get used to it, otherwise you might just go mad," the psychic Pokemon confirmed. "Every Pokemon in this region can be understood by humans. It has caused a very interesting balance between human and Pokemon kind, I must say." Such as herself becoming a professor, for one thing. If that wasn't a good example, than she wasn't sure what was.
"This place is a mysterious one. It has not really been heard of by any other existing regions. Only those that have been snapped up and brought here are aware of its existence. Most of the human population ended up here in similar ways as you, even those now considered native to it. I, myself, was not born here, but I do very much love it here." She smiled warmly. After all, how could she not enjoy it here?
The Gardevoir was silent a moment, observing her current guest. She seemed less sure and confident than the newcomers that had recently arrived before her. "Well, I can tell you that much of this region is untamed. It is not always entirely safe for one to travel alone. Have you any interest in training Pokemon? As the professor, it is my duty to give out Pokemon to those that wish to become Pokemon trainers. Having a companion may be the best thing that I can suggest for you."

Nikki sat silently, listening intently to what the Gardevoir was telling her. It was a bit much for her to take in all at once, but she tried to the best of her abilities. It was a frightening thought ... that a place that nearly no one knew of, just randomly snatched people up and placed them here for reasons unknown. It was scary ... but also a bit exciting as well. Or perhaps that was just her open mind at work there, thinking that getting ripped from your life of happy living and put into a dangerous new region full of who knew what was exciting.
After some silent thinking, Nikki turned back to the Pokemon with a smile. "I may sound crazy, but it all sounds exciting!" She quickly shot up from her chair and clapped her hands together in a sudden burst of new found energy. Realizing what she'd done, she quickly turned her gaze towards the floor and blushed lightly. "S-sorry. I'm not usually this ... well, crazy." she laughed nervously, starting to fiddle with her fingers once again.
She looked up a few seconds after, having recalled the last part the Gardevoir had said. "Pokemon training?" She grinned widely. "I could pick a Pokemon partner? Really?!" She clasped her hands together, trying not to go all spazzy again. "I would love to!" She could remember how she envied the many trainers she had seen over the years passing through Goldenrod City and wanting to be like them, but she had never really found that first motivational kick in the rear to get out and start. Maybe this was the kick she needed. A new start. Now was as good as a time as any, right?

Maevia only smiled and shook her head when Nikki apologized for her outburst. She wasn't disapproving, in fact, it was great to see so much excitement coming from the potential trainer. She was taking it all better than the Gardevoir had originally expected she would. "Your enthusiasm is wonderful, no need to apologize for that. Your enthusiasm is likely to make your journey that much easier and enjoyable."
"Here, come with me," Maevia waved her hand, gesturing for Nikki to follow her over to a machine that appeared to dispense Pokeballs. There was a keyboard and a monitor attached. She began typing on the keys and brought up a full list of the current Pokemon that they available for new trainers. "You may take your pick of any single Pokemon on this list. This machine will choose one of our Pokemon of the species you choose at random, and that Pokemon may become your partner."

"I hope so." she said in worried a whisper. Nikki wasn't exactly known for her enthusiasm unless it pertained to her desires to be a future breeder. Her shy nature and tendency to withdraw from change often held her back. She had a hunch that it'd take some time before she could get into the swing of being a Trainer and accepting this change.
She followed after her willingly, wondering just what Pokemon she would get to choose from. Her eyes shone with wonder as Maevia brought up a fairly long list of available Pokemon for her to pick from. There were so many choices. She was surprised that there were all three starters from all of the known regions. If it were possible, she would take them all, for each one had a certain charm.
As she scanned the list slowly, her decision fell between Charmander, Totodile, or the cute little Teddiursa. She knew from experience helping her mother that the last two were often quite a handful, more so than a Charmander. They usually required a Trainer with patience and lots of energy.
"I like both Teddiursa and Totodile, but I've heard they are somewhat difficult, depending on the type of Trainer." she said, voicing her views. She also tried adding in their evolutions as a factor. Charmander seemed the better choice, seeing as Nikki wasn't too versed in the ways of a Trainer. And most trainers she had seen with Charmander seemed pleased with them.
She pointed to the Charmander. "I think I'll go with a Charmander. I've always had a soft spot for the oldies, especially that fiery little lizard." she smiled, happy with her decision.

Maevia could only smile at Nikki's evident surprise toward the list of Pokemon that they had at the lab. The Gardevoir was quite proud of the Pokemon that she raised here, even though some of them were fairly moody things at times. The only dull moments in the laboratory were the times when she had to tend to paperwork.
As the young woman began to consider her choices, Maevia began to get a bag situated for her, including some pokeballs, a few potions, a registered pokedex, and some other things useful for travel. When she was done, she offered it up to Nikki, and added, "These things will be useful to you in your journey, and you have decided on a Charmander?" Well, the new trainer seemed as though she had definitely made up her mind.
Maevia selected the Charmander off the list, confirming the slection, and the machine sprang to life. In moments, it despensed a pokeball.
"There you have it," said the pokemon professor, gesturing to the Pokeball sitting in a depression on an otherwise flat surface of the machine. "There is a Charmander inside that Pokeball, but I cannot tell you anything about that particular one. My machine is set to select one of our Pokemon of the chosen species at random. You could say that we like surprises." She chuckled a bit. "Either way, it is yours."

As Nikki was offered a bag filled with some essentials, she was a little hesitant on accepting it right away. Usually, Nikki would politely decline as she wasn't one to take such gracious help from more or less a stranger. She was fairly confident in her ability to survive this place but at the same time this place was new, and not only to her. So perhaps accepting some help wouldn't be so bad ... In fact, she'd probably need all the help she could get right now.
She took the bag from the Gardevoir with a kind smile and carefully slung it over her shoulder. "Oh, thank you. Be assured I will use them well." she tugged on her bag's strap confidently and gave a hard nod.
She approached the machine and stared wonderingly at the lone Pokeball that held her partner. She carefully picked it up and brought it close to her face, securing it in both hands. She smiled and giggled at the thought of having her own Pokemon friend. "So you haven't a clue as to which one I have? I guess fate decides which partner we get." she chuckled, turning to face the Professor. "I don't know how to thank you for giving me such a new opportunity!" She paused briefly, realizing she hadn't even done introductions! "O-oh, dear! How rude of me! I don't believe I ever caught your name! My name is Nikki." she blushed and bowed at the Gardevoir. "I guess I was so surprised by what had happened that I forgot my manners. Sorry!"

"You are more than welcome," Maevia said, given a kind smile back to the new trainer as she had thanked her for the bag. When one thought of it, the bags that she gave out were much like care packages for the new trainers.
It was difficult not to continue to smile constantly, considering the amount of pleasant vibes that was coming from the young woman. "Yes. It is a known fact that we usually let fate guide our way in this region. Mind, everyone can help to create their own destinies." It seemed that the Gardevoir had a good bit of advice to be given. "Oh, yes..." She had somewhat forgotten about their introductions as well. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Nikki." She bowed slightly herself. "My name is Maevia. I prefer it, over being called the professor. I have no last name, being a Pokemon, so I simply use my name." She was smiling, still. "There is no need to apologize. In all the excitement, I seemed to have forgotten as well."
"I suppose you ought to be going soon, hm? I must tell you, there is a town on the outskirts of the forest and I can be contacted from any video phone and from your own phone, if you want to talk or need any advice. You can also transfer Pokemon to me through your Pokedex."

Still smiling as well, Nikki nodded. "It's been a pleasure to meet you as well, Miss Maevia. And you'll probably be hearing from me again some time down the road.", she laughed. "I'm not sure how long it'll take me to get use to all this." She would more than likely turn to the Gardevoir for some light on things as she ventured throughout this new region. Without her mother here, she felt a bit lost in a way, but it was nice to know that she could at least turn to Maevia for some help if she needed to.
With Pokeball still gripped tightly in hand, she turned and started towards the door with newfound confidence in this odd situation. She laid her free hand onto the door and turned to Maevia. "Well, I guess I'll be off then. I hope I'm able to find this town you told me about. And I want to thank you again for all the help you've given me.", she raised her hand in a still wave of goodbye, much like she always did in farewells. "Goodbye, Miss Maevia!" With that, she pushed open the door and slipped out to face this new challenge that awaited her.
