Sofia almost sneered. No manners? "Call me what you like, but I assure you, I had the best teachers and my manners are flawless. I am, after all, high society and am constantly watched. However, I will not disagree with the fact that 'manners' might mean something different in a world where fighting is a common occurance. Or maybe commoners have just a different view of these things - they always called nobility spoiled and self-centered, during all times. I have heard this before and am not disturbed by it." She lifted her nose just a bit higher. "How very pleasant for you that you were able to deal with your sudden, new reality - I am not and I refuse to be, for it would mean giving up fighting and surrendering to your gods. As for being rude, well, your gods certainly deserve that someone is rude to them, as they are rude themselves. And if you defend them, you can not expect me to not extend my feelings towards them to you, willing to help me or not. Those who defend criminals are on the wrong side of the law themselves."
Sofia watched him walking away. That was not the direction to the laboratory. Maybe he was going back on another way? At any rate, if he expected her to follow now like a small child that was left by her mother during a tantrum who knew that her daughter would follow if she walked away, well, he was mistaken. She would not give him that satisfaction... ...which kind of put her into the same mess as before: Alone in the forest. Should she try to follow him from a distance so he wouldn't notice her? But then she might get lost, since she would need to stay out of his sight and he out of hers. There was no use in that. But surely he would not leave a defenseless woman alone. Nyla! Nyla was well-mannered! She would be angry with him! Indeed! Very proud of her deduction, Sofia decided to just keep sitting for now.

Sofia kept sitting on the rock, determined to wait until Kage returned. However, when after a few minutes, she was still alone, she began to worry. What if he just left her here? After all, Maevia had just tossed her out, too! Maybe the people of this world were like that. And Nyla had been in her ball. Kage probably wouldn't call her out before he reached some water and who knew when this would be? As the minutes ticked by, Sofia grew more and more restless. What could she do now?! She obviously couldn't sit here until nightfall. Should she return to the laboratory? After all, it wasn't far away and she could simply retrace her steps. Then again, she didn't want to meet Maevia again, either. Then she remembered something Kage had said. There was a shrine! And people kept praying there to their gods and got things in return! Well! If these gods interacted with the humans there, this was the perfect place to tell them her opinion and get a ride back home! Determined, Sofia got up. This shrine couldn't be possibly far away! She just had to find tracks or a small way. People liked getting gifts, so there were probably many heading there - there sure was a way leading to the shrine! And so Sofia started to look around slowly for a way to the shrine, hoping to find her way back home this way. (Left for the shrine right now. Posts here so far: 17)

*** (Takes place after Sofia returns from the shrine)Sofia managed to find her way back to the spot where she had started searching for the shrine in the first place. She sat back down onto the rock, taking a deep breath and thinking about her situation again. Against her hopes, she hadn't managed to get the gods to bring her home, but that was not the fault of the one she had met, who had been really nice. Nevertheless, she was still stuck here and was now even becoming tied to this place. Her gaze went to the white ball she held in her hand. Kage had given her a gift. She really needed to thank him. Hopefully, she would find him again in this town she was supposed to go to. She was excited to see the horse-like Pokémon again. Glad that Kage had told her so much about the Pokéballs and that she hadn't been too distraught by her situation to forget his words, she pushed the button on the ball and threw it. It opened and revealed the Pokémon, this time being awake and looking at her. For a moment, Sofia blankly looked back. She had owned horses all her life, but never one who was able to talk to her. " Hello, Horse-Pokémon", she finally said, a bit nervous. " It's Ponyta, actually. That's how my species is called." His voice made it clear that the Ponyta was male. " You must be Sofia. Kage told me about you. It's nice to meet you." " Oh, yes, of course!" The god she had talked to had mentioned that name before. Sofia quickly got up and curtsied. " It's nice to meet you, too." She wondered what Kage had told the Ponyta. Hopefully nothing too bad. " I hope we get along fine!" " I'm sure we will." The Ponyta came a bit closer. Sofia approached her first Pokémon as well. She really wanted to pet it, but she didn't know if the fire was hot. It was fire after all. Was it also safe to have a Pokémon with a flaming mane and tail in a forest? Not that something would burn down! When she hesitated to touch him, the Ponyta gently rubbed his head against her halfway outstretched hand. Delighted, Sofia started stroking the soft fur. She quickly felt that the flames were a bit warm, but not hot and didn't hurt her. Hope welled up in her. Maybe she could ride him? " Your fire is just slightly warm...I never saw such flames." " I am a fire Pokémon and can make my fire hot if I want to, but it normally isn't harmful, don't worry." The Ponyta was a bit amused at how fascinated Sofia was, but also understood that she would have to learn a lot of things very slowly.

Sofia nodded and continued to pet her new companion. "Do you have a name yet? I can't call you 'Ponyta'. That would be rude."
"Normally, a trainer gives a Pokémon a name if he wants to, so no, I have not been named yet. Feel free to give me one. I actually look forward to it - as I am the only one of my kind yet, as I have heard so often, it has gotten a bit bothersome to be called 'the Regal Ponyta' all the time."
Sofia bit her bottom lip in thought. He clearly needed a noble, worthy name. For a second, she considered the name of one of her horses at home, for it would maybe comfort her to call someone a familiar name, but in the end, that was not right. He was not a normal horse and should even less be a substitute. "How about 'Lacuna'?" she finally suggested. It had a nice, mysterious ring to it and also sounded quite regal.
The Ponyta nodded. "That sounds really nice, actually."
Sofia beamed. "Great! Then this will be your new name!" Satisfied, Sofia leaned back, but then found no real words to continue. It was already strange for her to name someone whom she had just met and who also was suddenly something like her companion. It felt very little like naming a normal animal since he could talk.
"So", Lacuna said when Sofia remained silent, "shall we be on our way? We should probably try to reach civilisation before nightfall."
"Oh! Absolutely!" Sofia nodded a bit lately. The thought of being stuck in the forest at night was horrible, but...
"Is something the matter?" Lacuna looked at her curiously.
"I..." Sofia sighed. "I am stuck in this world, all of sudden. I just want to go home. At the shrine, I met a nice god, but he wasn't the one who had abducted me in the first place. This shrine seems to be the place to talk to the gods, though, and I obviously just need to keep going there until I catch the criminal one so he can take me home!" Yes, the god she had met had said that no one was here without a good reason, but persistance paid off most times.

"The legendary Pokémon don't like it to be bothered too often." Lacuna shook his head. "And I don't think this is how it will work."
"I know. The god I met said something about a reason, like maybe destiny, but...this must be a mistake! They probably meant to pick someone else! This is...just not right!" Sofia started pacing up and down.
Lacuna sighed. He could already guess he would hear these things quite a bit. "I don't believe the legendary Pokémon make such mistakes and even if it would be one, one would think they would have realized by now. Sofia, you want to find your way home, don't you?" He waited until Sofia had nodded. "Then you should start your search. Just staying and complaining will not help you here. It's understandable, because you feel this is not your fault to begin with, but it won't change things."
"But my family! They will be looking for me! The gods must understand!" Sofia shook her head.
"Your family is fine, Sofia. They might be worried, but they are not the ones stuck in a forest right now. If you insist, you can return to the shrine later, but for now, you should think about what to do today, right now. And I don't think you want to sleep on the ground." Lacuna's voice was gentle, but also held a certain force. "I'm certain you are here for a reason. You must be on your way or you won't find out that reason, ever." He nudged her when he saw how upset she was. "Come on. The town should not be far."
Sofia nodded slowly. "Alright. I want to sleep in a soft bed indeed and maybe this all will turn out to be a dream." She returned Lacuna's touch. "May...may I ride on you? You're not as tall as my horses back at home, but you look strong and big enough, so..."
"That's very fine, you don't look that heavy." He knelt down when Sofia finally smiled again, a bit more happy, but had obvious problems to get up on his back. She was used to ride with a saddle instead of bareback, but she would manage. Her dress allowed her no other position than the one she would take on a sidesaddle, too, and so she had to hold on Lacuna a bit, but in the end, she was sitting quite comfortable and Lacuna started to walk.
"Is this the way to the town?" Sofia had lost her orientation a bit thanks to her sidetrip to the shrine.
"I'm not sure, but there is some kind of path here, probably from trainers and their Pokémon travelling through this place. We'll be fine." Lacuna was glad there was one, too, for walking without one would have been a bit bothersome for him as well.

Sofia watched the forest pass by and absentmindly petted Lacuna's neck as they travelled. She tried to push all thoughts of home and her immediate situation away, for she feared she would cry again then, and instead focused on her surroundings. The forest was actually quite nice and seemed peaceful. She was also far less afraid, now that she had company. The trees looked like the ones in her world, too. Yet everything was different here. "How many kinds of Pokémon are there?" she finally asked after some time, just to say something.
"Several hundred, actually. You will see a lot more in town. And, like me, some look different from their normal colors, too. We also evolve, so that means even more types." Lacuna tried to answer in a way that was easy to understand.
"Evolve? What's that, exactly?" Sofia wondered.
"We Pokémon are not like humans, who continuously grow. We evolve suddenly, when certain conditions are met. These are different for every type - most Pokémon evolve when they grow stronger, but some need special stones for evolution and others evolve when they like their trainer a lot. When we evolve, we change forms. Some look totally different in their new form, while others resemble their old one. Should I ever evolve, I will look similiar, but I will be bigger, I will get a horn and much bigger flames. But complete changes are common, too."
"Like butterflies, then." Sofia nodded to herself. "It's all pretty complicated, though."
"You'll learn it slowly and with time, don't worry. Every trainer started off small."
Sofia went silent. She didn't really wanted to learn; to get too involved into this world that was not her own. But Lacuna obviously was quite happy to have a trainer now and telling him what she thought would probably hurt him. She wondered if she could take him back home with her once she would be finally able to leave or if he would even want that. "I hope I'll understand it", she finally said, just to answer and keep the conversation going.
"Hello?! Is someone there?" a soft voice suddenly came from somewhere to Sofia's left.
Sofia almost jumped and looked around in panic while Lacuna stopped, but didn't seem distressed. Sofia nervously patted him. The voice hadn't sound dangerous, after all. "H-hello", she called back. "Who is there?!"

" Oh!" A little, brightly colored Pokémon with wings stumbled out of the more overgrown part of the forest. " Hello!" " Oh! How cute!" Sofia almost squeed in delight. What an adorable, little creature! She slid down from Lacuna's back and hurried towards the Pokémon. " A Vulpix. I didn't know they lived in this forest." Lacuna came a bit closer as well. " But I've never seen one in this color, or with wings." The Vulpix smiled a bit nervously. " I'm not from here - I'm actually pretty lost, which is why I called out when I heard voices. I...don't believe I'm from this world." " What!?" Sofia knelt down, for once forgetting about her dress. " You too?! Have you been abducted as well?!" She couldn't believe it! Had she found someone who shared her fate? But this was a Pokémon, too, right? Why would the gods abduct a Pokémon if their world was already full of them? The Vulpix, however, shook her head. " Abducted? No, I don't think so. I'm not sure how I got here, but no one forced me, that's for sure. I come from Alternate World and am a Fairy Vulpix." " Alternate World?" Lacuna tilted his head. " I've heard that name before. It's a world that is said to be influenced by the emotions of the legendary Pokémon, right? A world created by them." The Vulpix nodded. " Yes, that's right! Though I have never met a legendary Pokémon in person before. It seems I somehow stumbled into this realm, into the middle of this forest." " There is a shrine not that far away. There is a very nice god - I mean, legendary Pokémon - there right now. I'm sure it can take you back home if you wish to." Surely it would, right? If this was just an accident?

The Vulpix flapped her wings. "I wonder..." Then she shook her head. "And I actually am very interested in this world. I'd like to stay a bit longer, but not in this forest. I've seen enough of that."
Sofia looked a bit taken aback. Someone who just stumbled into another world, but didn't want to return home? How curious. "We're on our way to the next town. Do you want to accompany us until then?" She really wanted to talk to this little Pokémon more now.
"I'd love to! My name is Akina!" Akina nodded eagerly.
"I'm Sofia." Sofia got up and curtsied. "This here is Lacuna." Obviously, Pokémon had names in Alternate World? "Do you want to ride with me on Lacuna's back? It would be easier to talk this way." She looked at Lacuna, who nodded. Akina didn't seem that heavy, after all.
"That would be nice." Akina jumped into Sofia's arms when she bent down to pick the Vulpix up. Her fur was really soft and Sofia enjoyed holding her quite a bit. She had a bit of problems to get back onto Lacuna and carry Akina and her parasol at the same time, but managed to in the end and Lacuna started walking again.
"Tell me about your world, Akina", Sofia quickly said. "Why don't you want to return? I just found myself in this world today, too, and want nothing more than to go home."
"My world..." Akina thought about it for a moment. "In my world, the sky is violet, with lights shining across it all day and night. Alternate World has no beginning or end and it always changes, probably caused by the emotions of the legendary Pokémon. I travelled through Alternate World for a long time, to see as many different things as possible. This world is completely new to me, though, and this is why I don't want to leave yet. There are bound to be so many new things to see!"

"You want to expand your views on the world. That's very understandable", Lacuna commented and Sofia looked up in surprise.
Wasn't that what the legendary Pokémon had said to her? That some people - maybe even her - were brought here because they should do just that? Maybe Akina was brought here by the gods after all, then. There was no reason to upset her then by telling her that maybe, she would be unable to leave. Still, Sofia couldn't help but ask one more question. "Don't you have someone waiting for you at home, though?"
Akina shook her head. "Not really, no. I sometimes travelled a bit with other Fairy Pokémon, but there's no real family waiting for me."
"The 'family' of most Pokémon in this world are their trainers and the other Pokémon travelling with them", Lacuna told Sofia. "It's probably different from your world."
Sofia nodded. Was that why Maevia hadn't understood her, being a Pokémon? Kage seemed to think of Nyla and Vexsis as his family, too. Maybe this was how it was in this world. How could she make others understand her, then?
"What's your world like, Sofia?" Akina asked then. "It sounds quite different!"

"It's a world without Pokémon", Sofia answered. She didn't really want to think about home and her family right now, but maybe she should share her memories. Lacuna would be with her for the duration of her time here, at least, and she wanted to explain to him and satisfy Akina's curiousity, too.
And so, Sofia started to talk. She started with what she thought interested the Pokémon the most; the nature, the rainbows over the waterfalls, the ice roses growing in winter and the giant trees in bloom in spring. But then she moved on to the festivals of her town, to the lake in front of her mansion, to her home, her life as a noble and finally her family and how much she loved them. When she reached the end, she had to blink her tears away.
"It really sounds interesting and so nice", Akina commented softly. "But it also sounds like your life is the same every day." Then she smiled up to Sofia. "I'm sure that when you come home, you will have so many interesting stories to tell now."
For the duration of a second, Sofia just stared at Akina. Then, her tears started to fall. Finally. Finally she had met someone who didn't keep saying 'there is no way back', 'you are stuck here' and 'people don't get sent home', but someone who seemed to have no doubt that she would get back. "T-thank you...!" she sobbed and pulled Akina closer. And then Sofia buried her nose in the soft fur of the Vulpix and wept.

It was quite some time later when Sofia finally calmed down. She looked up when she noticed Akina licking her face in comfort. A bit embarrassed, she wiped her tears away. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to lose my composure like that."
"That's quite alright. You've been through a lot today." Lacuna had walked on the whole time. He was quite glad that he saw a bit better now that his trainer was not just a haughty noble, but also someone who was just lost and lonely and completely overwhelmed with the situation and had acted before just like she had done all her life. "Tomorrow, things will surely look better. I see now why you wanted to stay near the shrine before. Being a noble obviously means that your wishes get fulfilled even if you just ask. I'm sorry that this world does not offer the same comfort to you. You must feel completely lost. Not only is it a different world and you are away from home, all the rules you knew all your life are, to you, of no matter here."
"Yes, exactly..." Sofia felt tired. She had cried so much today already. "I just don't belong here."
"I'm sure you'll find your way back if you just keep looking for it", Akina reassured Sofia, since this was obviously what the girl needed to hear the most to give her some hope.
Sofia smiled and stroked Akina's fur in thanks. "I will. I won't give up." She closed her eyes. "But how am I supposed to go on? I don't even have money! I can't even buy food, neither for me nor for you. I'll also have to...to just ask a stranger to let me sleep in their house, obviously." That was so embarrassing and could also be quite dangerous.

"There are Pokémon Centers in the towns where we Pokémon recieve free care if we are wounded. Maybe, if you ask nicely, you will be allowed to stay there for the night as well. It sounds like our best bet for now. As for the food and other supplies you need, we'll have to earn money." Lacuna sighed. They were really in a bit of a difficult situation.
"I can try to sell my ribbon. It's pure, most valueable silk." Sofia touched her hair ornament. She really liked that one, since her sister had made it for her, but they needed food. "But that won't help forever, either."
Lacuna shook his head. "I doubt someone would want it. We'll have to fight a battle then."
Sofia stared. "A battle!?"
Lacuna nodded. "When two Pokémon trainers fight, the one that wins gets money from the one that loses. That's how it is."
"But...but that's mugging!" Sofia shook her head frantically. "What's wrong with this world?! Abduction, fighting everywhere and now mugging!?"
Lacuna chuckled softly. "It must seem strange to you indeed, but it's normal to us. I understand it's hard for you to adjust to this and that so quickly, too, but we have little choice right now."
This was a nightmare. Sofia couldn't believe it. She took a few deep breaths. "Very well. Let's assume we...fight a battle. What happens if we lose, though? We have no money to give! What happens then!?"

"I...actually don't know", Lacuna admitted. "Normally, new trainers get some money and supplies to support their Pokémon during battles from the professor, so it's easier for them to win and they have money to give if they lose."
"Well, I got nothing. Absolutely nothing." Sofia sighed. "Let's...let's hope we find Kage in town. Maybe I can borrow some money from him, as much as it shames me. But what if he's not there? I don't want to beg for money like some kind of hobo!"
"It's not nice, but maybe you just have to hope for the best in battle and hope the situation of losing never comes up", Akina suggested. "It's just the first battle that will be a problem, since a win means you have money after that. I'll gladly help out, too!"
"Thank you, that does make me feel better", Lacuna admitted. "Though we are both fire types. Since Sofia also has no Pokéballs to catch more Pokémon on our way to town, there is no way to get another Pokémon of a different type and we have no Potions, either. If we're up against a water Pokémon, we might be in trouble." Lacuna sighed. "Let's hope for the best."
"Types? What exactly is that?" Sofia asked. More confusing things, ugh!
"Each Pokémon has one or two types. Some are effective against another type while uneffective against the next. We, as fire Pokémon, have great problems against water Pokémon", Lacuna started to explain and Sofia did her best to listen. It actually made sense, kind of.
While he explained, Akina pondered what Lacuna had said. She really wanted to help Sofia. Was there really no way to get another Pokémon? Maybe they could ask another wild one to follow them for some time, like Akina was right now tagging along with them as well. Or maybe...maybe the legendary Pokémon would be willing to help Sofia out, despite how she felt towards some of them? Maybe she should visit the shrine herself and ask for help for Sofia. Since Lacuna had, as far as Akina had understood, been a gift from someone Sofia knew and had just been delivered by a legendary Pokémon, maybe bothering them with a wish for Sofia would be possible. It seemed to be worth a try.

But what Pokémon should she wish for? She knew nothing about this world. Akina decided to talk to Lacuna. But how should she do that without Sofia noticing? Her chance came just a few minutes later when she saw something glittering in the sun through the trees. " Oh! Is that a lake?" She perked up. " Could we take a short break? I didn't have anything to drink since I came into this world." " That is a good idea. I'm quite thirsty, too", Lacuna added. " Yes, why not?" Sofia was mainly getting hungry, but a bit of water would be nice. Then again, this was a lake! Drinking this water was probably unhealthy. Reaching the lake, however, revealed crystal-clear water. Sofia got down from Lacuna and Akina jumped out of her arms. The Pokémon immediately went to the water to drink while Sofia hesitated, taking a look first. The water was clear alright, but she saw a few shadows darting away near the ground. Fish! She refused to drink water in which fish lived! That was just disgusting. When she looked at the Pokémon, the two seemed to be in a discussion, talking with hushed voices. Wondering what this was about, Sofia joined them, being careful not to get her shoes wet. " Are you feeling better now?" Akina nodded. " I do. However, I remembered that I have to do something really quickly. It won't take all that long. Would you two wait for me here?" Sofia blinked, confused. " Do something?" What could Akina want to do? She was a stranger to this world, too, right? " We need to hurry to the town!" " We still have time", Lacuna said gently. " And a break from walking would be nice for me, too. I'm not used to have a rider." " I will hurry up. And it might be really worth it - it might help you a lot, too!" Akina smiled up at Sofia. " Please?" Sofia sighed. She wanted to get out of the forest as soon as possible and Akina was horribly vague, but if Lacuna needed a rest anyway... " Very well then. But please hurry. I feel I've been stuck in this forest for far too long. I'll just get my clothes dirty here! And what if you get lost again?!" " Don't worry, I'll be back before you know it! I'll stay on the main path!" Akina dashed off. It was quite the way back to the shrine and she was glad she was so used to travelling that she could run for quite some time. Now she could only hope that the legendary Pokémon would help her. (Akina left for the shrine)

(Akina returns some time later. Also adding the random event in here that gave Sofia $500. Whoo, money!) Akina was walking as fast as she could, but it was difficult. There was a Pokéball balanced on her back, after all. Her sensitive wings were taking quite a bit of abuse from the ball, but she didn't want to roll it on the ground and get it dirty. Sofia would probably not even touch it then. She was fully well prepared to meet an unhappy Sofia since she had taken such a long time in the end. However, when Akina approached the lake again, she found Sofia quite happily chatting to Lacuna, sitting on a rock a bit away from the water. She had two Pokéballs on her lap. The legendary Pokémon had obviously been quite fast. " Akina!" Sofia looked up and smiled when the Vulpix joined them again. " There you are! I was beginning to worry!" " Sorry I took so long." Akina was a bit nervous and also surprised. Two Pokéballs could make Sofia so happy? " Did...something happen?" " Yes! We got lucky!" Sofia nodded happily. " I took a stroll around the lake. Obviously, other people have taken a rest here before, because I found a wallet near the water! And there is some money in it!" " However unfortunate for the one who lost it, we are in luck indeed. It's not much, definitely not enough for supplies, but it will be enough for some food and also to make us able to battle fairly." Lacuna ignored the unhappy look Sofia gave him when she heard they would still fight. " And when Sofia and I turned around again then, there suddenly were two Pokéballs as well." There was definitely a question in Lacuna's voice. " I swear they hadn't been there before." Sofia looked at the balls in her lap. " They're both empty, though. But that's probably good. Imagine someone would forget their Pokémon! How terrible and rude that would be!" She examined the balls. " These look like Kage's. I'm sure of it. Lacuna's is white, though." " So I was just telling Sofia about different Pokéballs, even though mine is a normal one, too, just in an unusual color." Lacuna nodded at Akina. " But now tell us about what you did."
