Venya followed the boy's gesture to look up at the mountain. Though he had already climbed this far, the mountain still seemed as tall as it had from the bottom. The Articuno was still looking over the crowd as it started to disperse in search of the eggs. His attention was returned to the conversation as the boy was introducing himself and requested to partner up for the search.
"Sure. I'm Venya. This Charmander here is Piro." He ventured, tapping the orange lizard's head. Rather than say anything, she pointedly looked away.
"Since we don't really know where to look first, I would say climbing the mountain might be best. We'll get the difficult part out of the way and can always walk down more easily. Plus, it might be easier to spot the eggs, assuming they're not buried in the snow. At this, Piro groaned at the thought of more climbing, but he ignored her. If she got too tired, he decided he'd give her a rest in the Pokeball for a bit.

Rizen gave Venya a small dip of his head. "Venya, it's good to meet you," he said. "And this is Rose." He gestured at his Treecko, who stepped towards Venya and Piro and nodded at both of them.
When Venya explained his idea, Rizen glanced up at the top of the mountain. The peak seemed quite far, and he hoped they wouldn't have to search that extensively for the eggs. Venya's plan was a good one, however, so he had no complaints. "That's fine with me," he said, turning back to the other trainer. "Seeing as this is your plan, would you like to take the lead?"
Normally Rizen disliked working with others, but if Articuno wanted the trainers to cooperate, he didn't feel that he had a choice.

They started the climb in relative silence, with only the scrabbling of rocks, grunts of effort, and the occasional scrap of Rizen's metal wings on a rock. After some time like this, Venya noticed they had made great headway. A glance down confirmed this, as the plateau they started on shrank in the distance. A few trainers were still there, as was Articuno, but most appeared to have started their search as well, though Venya couldn't see them.
Piro caught his glance and followed his eyes to see what he was looking at, but suddenly became frightened at the height they had climbed and hugged the wall. "Come on, Piro. You can't be afraid of heights if you're going to be a Charizard someday." He called, shifting over to reach her.
"As a Charizard, I'll have wings! I don't have those yet!" She snapped, glancing down again, before jealously staring at Rizen's folded wings. Venya has figured the older boy's wings were attached to him, but couldn't decide whether they didn't work or if he just wasn't flying because they couldn't.
Pulling on Piro, he managed to get her climbing again, but a few steps later she tripped, and started falling. Venya panicked and missed her hand, nearly falling himself. Quickly, he whipped out the Pokeball and returned her in midair. He was still in a cold sweat afterwards, fully aware that the action had been an instant reaction and that he could have just as easily jumped after her, which would've done nothing for both of them. He considered calling her back out, but Piro was likely more afraid of climbing than before, now. During the next break, he'd send her out after she'd had a good rest.

(Psst...Telo...that's exactly what you get in trouble for xD; You can't say "they started the climb" or "the occasional scrape of Rizen's metal wings" because I never said that Rizen began to climb or scraped his wings against any rocks. You can only make things happen to Venya. But I'll let it go, if Taya's ok with it. I don't know if she's reading all these?)
Before they started to climb, Rizen returned Rose to her Pokeball so that she would not risk falling down. He followed Venya up the side of the mountain, making his way slowly but steadily. Rizen had never done anything so tiring before. Although his hands and arms were strong from building various objects in his spare time, this was a far different experience from working tools. He looked over his shoulder at the Skarmory wings that hanged from his back. Perhaps he could use them...but Rizen was rather nervous about trying again and could not erase his memories of that terrible fall...
A few moments later, Rizen saw a patch of orange zoom by, and her almost fell off the rocks in alarm. It was Piro. Before he could extend an arm and try to catch her, there was a flash of red that enveloped Piro, returning the Charmander to her Pokeball. Rizen looked up at Venya, a frown on his face.
"You should have let her back in before we started," he growled. "This isn't the safest of routes, you know." He was glad that he had thought of returning Rose. Although the Treecko wasn't likely to complain about climbing, he wasn't sure if she had the stamina to make it.

Though still anxious over the recently averted tragedy, Venya still found himself indignant to Rizen's comments on his training methods. Rather than lashing out at his recently acquired partner, he turned and continued to climb first.
Reach. Grab. Pull and step.
"Piro and I have only just started working together. She needs to work hard if she wants to get stronger."
Reach. Grab. Pull and step.
"That aside, its important that we build trust in each other."
Reach. Grab. Pull and step.
"While this almost ended very, very badly, the concept still stands."
Reach. Grab. Pull and step.
"Like a parent, I have to watch them try to overcome certain obstacles without my help."
Reach. Grab. Pull and step.
He drew a breath to continue, but stopped suddenly. The relative silence of their climb resumed as Venya realized what he was saying. This was how he trained his Pokemon and there was nothing wrong with it, but he was using it as an excuse. This same reasoning is what caused him so great a heartbreak a year prior that the memory of it caused his fingers to tremble, endangering his climb.
As a stream of tears started down his cheeks, he resumed climbing, trying to will the memories out of his mind for now. He was thankful that he still was in the lead, so Rizen could not see his face. Without looking down at the other boy, he pushed onward, instead focusing on the sounds of the silence.
Reach. Grab. Pull and step.

Rizen frowned at Venya's reply to his comment. Yes, you have to build trust, he thought to himself, and yes, your Pokemon need to get stronger...but you don't have to force them up a long, arduous climb like this... He said nothing more, however, and noticed that Venya had suddenly stopped for a second, as if thinking. Rizen wondered what the boy could be thinking about, but again, the Pokemorph remained silent and did not ask.
The gritty surface of the rocks was making his palms feel quite sore, but he tried to push away the pain. He wished that his wings could actually be of some use, rather than act like weights on his back. He paused and glanced up, trying to judge how far the top was from their current position. It didn't seem too far. Just a little further to go. Rizen gritted his teeth and resumed climbing.

The top of the mountain wasn't a sudden plateau, as the meeting place had been. Instead, the slope arched in towards a peak, making a nice easy slope that could be walked across rather than climbed. Once he had stepped away from the edge, Venya moved a distance off, sat down, and released Piro again.
Once the light from the Pokeball faded, the Charmander looked around in panic before realizing that she was standing on level ground and had not fallen to the bottom of the mountain. After a moment of clearly visible relief, she again looked around hurriedly before spotting Venya.
"What happened to you?" She asked, commenting on his appearance, seemingly unconcerned that just moments before, to her, she had been plummeting off the side of a cliff.
Venya used his sleeve to dry his face as he responded, "Your fall scared me. I didn't think the Pokeball would be able to reach you." After a pause, "We're at the top now, so the only climbing left is going down, which is easier. Still, I think you've done enough for today, so you can choose whether you want to climb or ride in the Pokeball when we go back down."
Standing, he wiped his face once more before turning towards Rizen to decide where they would go next.

Rizen breathed a sigh of relief as soon as the slope grew gentler. He brushed his hands together, wiping off some of the dust and grit that had accumulated on them as he climbed. His arms and legs were all sore, but he still had some energy left in him.
When Venya released Piro, he noticed that the Charmander didn't seem too angry at her trainer. That's good, I guess... the Pokemorph thought. Maybe I was a little harsh on him... But Rizen decided not to dwell on the topic any longer, and he dug around in his satchel for Rose's Pokeball. He released the Treecko on the ground in front of him. Rose shook herself as the red light faded and stood up, blinking at her trainer.
"Well, where to?" Rizen asked Venya. "Any ideas?"

"Now that we're on the summit, we can walk around the crest and look out over the rest of the mountain." Venya replied, latching onto the conversation and pushing the averted tragedy behind him for good. "If we see anything, we can climb down to check it out. There might be a cave or outcropping of rocks that we can check as well."
Starting to walk around the edge of the crest, Venya looked out over the land, gazing at the distant horizon briefly before returning to the side of the mountain he stood on. The Articuno was no longer in sight, nor were any other groups of trainers. The rough walls of the rock provided little place for something to hide, with some parts just dropping off altogether. Occasional ledges sported bushes and rubble, which might be good places to check, but Venya passed over them, deciding to look for more obvious or likely locations before going after a guess and then having to climb back up. Some indents could even be caves, which he sincerely hoped was not the case as it would only complicate the search to a great degree.
As they were nearing their starting point to complete the circle, Venya turned back to Rizen, hoping the older boy had had more luck than he. Perhaps with those wings of his, he also possessed the sharp eyes of a bird as well?

Rizen nodded, having no complaints about Venya's plan, and began to follow the other trainer. He kept alert as they passed by various shrubs, rocks, and indents on the cliff, and Rose scurried around his feet, sniffing the air. However, they couldn't seem to find anything. Soon, Rizen realized that they had gone in a circle and were nearing their starting place.
"Looks like we're back..." he grumbled to no one in particular. After glancing around, he looked up to see Venya staring at him. Rizen narrowed his eyes. "What? I haven't found anything, if you wanted to know."

Pointing to the nearest ledge, Venya says, "There are a few places an egg could hide in and around the bushes. We could try looking there first. We might even find caves near these ledges, which Piro can light up for us."
The Charmander beside him swished her tail, as if indicating how little effort the task would take.
"We could cover more ground faster if we split up, but I don't think we're supposed to, since we had to form groups to begin with."

Rizen shrugged. He was pretty much okay with any plan at this point, since there were so many places they had yet to look in. Typically, he'd prefer not to work with someone else, but if the great Articuno advised him to...
Suddenly, Rose's head perked up and she skittered over to an indent on the cliff wall. She scratched at it, as if there was something curious about the spot. Intrigued, Rizen walked over to his Pokemon and investigated.
"What is it?" he asked. Rose did not reply, but she started pushing against the spot. Rizen made a fist and knocked on the rock several times. It sounded...hollow?

When Rizen began knocking on the rock, Venya, confused, followed him. When the older boy indicated that the rock was, in fact, hollow, Venya knocked on the rock himself, but couldn't decide whether it was hollow or not. He was not in the habit of knocking on rocks, but he did notice that the sound was off.
"A hidden cave?" He looked around the wall a bit but could not find the edge of a boulder, so they would have to break the rock if they wanted to get in. "Piro doesn't know Rock Smash, do any of your Pokemon?"
Looking around at their resources, Venya discovered that there was not much available on the cold mountaintop. Aside from a few other boulders, there was nothing movable. If the wall wasn't that thick, perhaps they could throw one of the larger rocks through it?
