The dual Pokemorph had traveled far enough from the strange laboratory that it was out of sight and nearly out of mind. Sure, Mai had been given a Pokemon and several useful items from Maevia, the professor that just so happened to be a Pokemon, but she still wasn't entirely sure if she trusted her. Mai didn't exactly trust much of anyone too quickly. She stopped suddenly and looked around her. She didn't see anyone or anything directly in her line of sight, so she pulled the single Pokeball that resided on her belt off of it. "Come on out," she called, tossing the ball into the air. In a flash of red light, a small Cyndaquil appeared, and the ball returned to the trainer's hand. The Pokemon blinked a few times, adjusting to the differences in light between the outside world and the Pokeball that it had come from. "Hey," Mai greeted it, sitting down right in front of it with her legs crossed. "I'm your trainer now," she stated, tail flicking once. "My name is Mai."The Cyndaquil tilted his head back and forth as he observed the Pokemorph. Once she announced that she was his trainer, he nodded his head. "I understand," he chimed in. "Mai... I do not have a name, otherwise I would tell it to you."

Mai had already assumed that the Pokemon she received would be without a name. That was how it always was, wasn't it? Unless, perhaps, you traded Pokemon, which then some of them may have preferred to keep their original names. "I suppose it is my job to name you then, isn't it?" She may have inquired about it, but the question was mostly to herself rather than the Pokemon. She was sure that was how it was supposed to go.
"Yes, that is usually where you come in," the Cyndaquil answered. "And I would like something that doesn't sound too silly, if you please," he added quickly afterward. He knew that not all trainers were the best at coming up with names, and he was quite fearful of not being taken seriously in battle simply because of a name.
The young woman thought about it for a moment, before nodding her head. Yes, she had figured it out! "Kamikaze. Your name shall be Kamikaze. I have heard that it has something to do with fighting, um, suicide soldiers... You know, fighters willing to die for their cause..." She wasn't sure why, but the name seemed to fight Cyndaquil well enough. He seemed like he would be a serious fighter, at the very least.
"It has a meaning," the fire Pokemon stated. "I like it."

Noticing the new voices underneath, an oddly colored Spinarak decided to investigate. It lowered itself from the trees and gazed upon the odd human with a tail and funny ears. After having recently escaped a lab it was longing for human interaction. It decided to present itself and hopefully make a friend, it didn't exactly have the best people skills in the world. The Spinarak dropped upon the trainers head and crawled over her head to make eye contact. "Hi there!"

Mai had just been about to ask her Pokemon partner a question, when she felt something land on her head, stopping her train of thought cold. Before she could jump up and investigate, she found herself face to face with black, beady little eyes... Wait! Was that a Spinarak?
"Oh!" the Pokemorph exclaimed in surprise, taking several steps backward without realizing it, as if trying to pull away. She stumbled right into an up-turned root, her heel catching on it and it sending her to the ground. She landed on her butt with a very loud thud, her ears back more than usual from the pain of the impact. "Uuugh," she complained.
Meanwhile, Kamikaze had witnessed it all and, despite Mai being his trainer, he couldn't help but to find the incident incredibly amusing. He was laughing at the two, his little paws up to his mouth.

Starled by the sudden jolt, the Spinarak lost its hold and landed in front of the trainer. "Sorry, I was just looking for a trainer and I saw you and I kinda just thought that you could help and..." The Spinarak, at this point, was just gibber gabbering to itself. If the Spinarak could blush it would be blushing at this point, noticing that the Cyndaquil was laughing. "I'm sorry I didn't mean any harm."

Mai regathered her wits once her butt was safely planted on the ground and the Pokemon - she was right, it had been a Spinarak - was now off of her head and sitting in front of her. Somehow, despite her embarrassment, she managed to smile at the small spider Pokemon. "No, no... You just startled me, that's all..." The Pokemorph explained, now feeling bad that she probably surprised it just as much as it surprised her.
Kamakaze was still laughing, unable to help it, when Mai looked at him with narrowed eyes. "Kamakaze! We never mention this again." She demanded, obviously meaning about her sudden lack of coordination and stumbling to the ground. It was so unlike herself that it was frustrating.
The Cyndaquil, at the sight of his trainer's eyes, stopped laughing instantly. "Ah, sorry, Mai...but it was funny." It was then that he remembered that the Spinarak was still there, ad looked over to it. "Hey, I'm the one that should be saying sorry," his voice actually held some kindness to it. The Spinarak wasn't Mai, so picking on it was out of the question, and it looked like it felt awful about what happened.
"You said you wanted a trainer, right...?" Mai asked, the gears finally started to grind in her head now that she had sorted herself out. "Well, if you chose us... I'm definitely not against you coming with us. How about it? I bet Kamakaze is nicer than he always appears, isn't that right, Kaze?" In that instant, the Pokemorph took one of the five empty Pokeballs from her belt and set it on the ground in front of her, as if inviting the wild Pokemon to enter it, if it really wanted to come with them.

It stared at the Pokeball questioning if it should go with this trainer. She seemed nice enough, she wasn't mad after it had just dropped onto her head and scared her. The Spinarak sat and thought it over and over and finally made up its mind. This could be the start of a new journey something new and fun. It scurried over to the Pokeball and bopped its head on it. The Pokeball opened and the familiar red light covered the Spinarak and pulled it in. It rocked back and forth only a second before it sat there completely still.
Congratulations Mai caught a Spinarak

Mai found it to be very amusing as the Spinarak bumped its head into the pokeball that she sat down for it, she almost wanted to laugh, since it was quite cute, but she was just happy that the unusual little had decided to join them. Mai may not have seemed it, but she had a kind heart and if the little spider Pokemon wanted a trainer, she was glad to have it. Such an interest Pokemon it was.
"I have the feeling that you attract very unusual Pokemon," Kamikaze commented, wearing a slight smirk on his face. Though he didn't know it, his trainer found it funny to see such a small Pokemon with such a large attitude. He definitely spoke his mind, if nothing else. "That would mean that you are a very unusual Pokemon," Mai retorted, her tail flicking. "I never said I wasn't."
The Pokemorph woman shook her head. Well, at least he agreed.

Picking up the pokeball that lay on the ground, Mai quickly replaced it onto her belt. She wanted to call out her Spinarak, but she was waiting until she felt that she had found an appropriate name for it. If she wasn't mistaken, the spider Pokemon had sounded a good bit like a female. Besides, she and Kamikaze still had a lot to learn about one another. Dividing her attention was going to be a difficult task, wasn't it? She frowned at the thought.
She began to walk on, Kamikaze following close by her side, or occasionally behind her or in front of her. "Do you like me?" Mai asked all of the sudden, causing her Cyndaquil to stop in his tracks. "Why wouldn't I?" he asked, glancing back to look at her. "I wondered because you act differently than I expected of most starting Pokemon. "That's because I was there a little longer than the others. I've seen more and I've been around the block already, once or twice."

"You've been around the block?" Mai repeated, though she spoke it as a question. She noticed that Kaze didn't answer on purpose, simply turning back around and walking on again in silence. However, the Pokemorph was not about to let it go. She walked after him, catching up so that she was walking beside the small Pokemon. "What do you mean by that?"
After a moment, the fire Pokemon sighed. "Look, I've seen everyone else get chosen. I've seen other trainers come and get a Cyndaquil, but it was never me. I was never chosen. I was at the lab for a long time, I spent a lot of time out here, by myself, resenting a lot of those trainers."
Mai frowned. "But doesn't Maevia's machine pick one from the species we choose at random?" She asked, wanting to make sense of things.
"Why do you think that machine was created? Her machine is the only one that there is."
