I have been tossing the idea around of hosting Pokemon Contests, modeled after the format that is used in the Pokemon show, with an "appeal" section, where all entrants show off their Pokemon and, from the appeals, some semi-finalists are chosen to move on to the battle rounds. The winner would be the trainer to win the battle rounds, in an elimination style.
Appeal sections would be done by roleplaying the entire appeal, of course, describing what the trainer and Pokemon do, describing attack combinations, and so forth. The current judge of the contest would choose finalists by what appeals/combinations seem the most, well, appealing to them.
The amount of semi-finalists that move onto the battle rounds would depend on the total amount of entrees. The numbers would be eight, four or two. The rounds would be elimination rounds. Each trainer would be randomly matched with another. The trainer to loose their battle would be eliminated, while the winner moves on to the next round [or wins, if it is the final battle]. And the process repeats until their is one final trainer standing.
Now then... I have described the basics of how the contests would actually function, but I am debating about a few things. These would be:
Should the contest winners win ribbons to eventually move onto a "contest festival," like in the show? Or should the contest winners win prizes like money, Pokemon eggs, Pokemon, and/or items? Or should we have both types of contests?
Should the Pokemon used by contest winner level up? Such as, the Pokemon used in appeals and the single Pokemon used in the battles each gain a level? If the same Pokemon is used for appeals and battles, they would gain two levels for winning?
Should each contest have a level minimum and maximum range for the Pokemon used in the battle rounds that various from contest-to-contest? [Ex. One contest, the Pokemon would have to be between levels 10-15. Or even 10-12.] What range would be a good range?
Judges! Should we occasionally take on volunteer members to be the judge or judges?
In the case that I am not a judge during a contest, would you consider it fair if one of my trainers [excluding Taya], entered the contest?
