It wasn't long after Nikki had left Maevia's Lab that she decided it was time to meet and greet her new partner. Crouching down, she slid the strap of the bag off her shoulder and let it fall to the ground, then held her Pokeball in front of her. Her fingers were trembling with such excitement that she nearly dropped it a few times. "Okay, Nikki. Let's see the newest addition to team 'Lost and Clueless' here." she jokingly told herself. She held out the Pokeball and released the Charmander inside. Within seconds, she found herself face to face with a bright-eyed and smiling Charmander. She gasped in awe of the sight, finding it hard to believe she had finally gotten her own Pokemon Partner. She reached out a hand and touched his head cautiously, as if to assure herself he was really real. He smiled and threw up a clawed hand in greeting. "Hiya! Are you my new trainer?" he asked. Nikki's hand shot backwards into her chest. She was still getting used to the fact that she could now understand Pokemon. And that fact had escaped her there for a moment. She nodded quickly and laughed. "Uh, yeah, I think so. Is that alright with you?" The Charmander looked at her questioningly, as if she was crazy to ask. "Oh course it is! I've wanted a trainer for a long time now! I've been wanting to get out and explore!" he exclaimed, hopping excitedly. Nikki couldn't help but laugh at his happy enthusiam. He seemed to be happy with these new arrangements, so it was all going smooth so far!

Nikki shifted a bit and stared long and hard at her Charmander. She wondered if he liked being called simply Charmander or if he would like a name of sorts to go by. Naming a Pokemon wasn't unheard of back where she was from, but it seemed so strange now that there was a stable communication line established. Then she started wondering if Pokemon even liked being given names in the first place...
She seemed to have zoned out there for a minute as the Charmander poked her arm curiously. She looked down at him with wide eyes, "Oh?" "What'cha doing, Miss?" he questioned, tilting his head to one side and wagging his tail. "O-oh, just thinking. And you can call me Nikki ... which leads me to ask if you ... would like a name?" she shrugged. It was only a suggestion and she just hoped she hadn't somehow offended him. Much to her pleasure, it hadn't and the Charmander nodded wildly at the idea. "Sure! Make me sound cool, Nikki!" She giggled madly at this spunky little lizard and began to think of names. It wasn't long before a named popped out to her that she fancied. "Would you like being called ... Torch?" It was apparent he did as a wide grin spread across his lips and he 'ohhhh'ed at the name. "Torch sounds awesome! I like it!"
Nikki clapped her hands together happily then slung her bag back over her shoulder and stood. "Ha, Torch it is then! So then, Torch, what do you say? Should we get going? Maevia mentioned something about a town somewhere on the outskirts of this forest... I think it's best if we try for there first." Nikki liked having a conversation with a Pokemon that was able to answer back. It made her feel less crazy than she felt trying to speak to those back home at the daycare. And in her opinion, Pokemon definitely made for better company. She felt much more at ease around them than people. She felt people were just too ... much, at times.
Torch nodded in agreement. "Oh yeah, I know what you're talking about. I can get you there! Just leave it to me!" Torch boasted, clearly confident in his sense of direction, then started out in a rough jog into the woodland. Nikki gasped in surprise and took off after him. "H-hey! What-" "Come on! Follow me!" Torch called out, not giving Nikki much time to question his actions. Hopefully, he knew where he was going.

As Torch and Nikki traveled through the forest, they grew closer and closer to a small group of Pokemon that had gathered in a clearing just ahead of them, surrounded by the brush. Though they were there, they were still out of sight. "You don't belong here," a voice had said to another. Which caused another voice to stammer out, "W-why? I-I didn't do anything wrong..."

Torch, who had been easily tearing through the forest, paused a moment as he thought he had heard what was a voice. Was that another? He wondered where they were coming from. He couldn't see anything or anyone at the moment.
"Torch? Tor--WAH!" Nikki screeched as she nearly tripped over the Charmander who had stopped right in her path. She stumbled to the side and quickly fell to a knee, throwing a hand out for balance. "Nikki, did you hear that?" Nikki looked around, confused. "H-hear what? I didn't he-" but before she could finish, Torch dashed forward through the brush curiously. Nikki gasped and made a grab for him but missed, so quickly got to her feet to follow. "Torch!" she said in a half whisper, half hiss. If there was something up ahead, it could be dangerous. She didn't want to start out her journey of a Trainer by losing her first Pokemon!

None of the Pokemon that had gathered up into the clearing paid any mind to the noises not too far away from where they were. They were too busy focusing on what was happening among them. It was only when the Charmander burst out from the bushes that the lot of them jumped, especially one unusual looking Caterpie. Three Caterpie were all next to one another, while they faced an oddly colored Caterpie that was a brighter shade of green with an orange stomach, markings and horns. It became clear, then, if they had made any sense of the words exchanged just before, that the odd Caterpie was being mistreated by the others. It was more timid in nature than the other Caterpie centered in the middle, the one that was doing all of the talking for the group of three. "What do you want?" The middle Caterpie finally asked as it looked at Torch. It seemed not to hold any fear in the fire type Pokemon, for some reason.

The sight that greeted Torch when he had stepped out into the clearing was not one he'd seen too often. A group of ... Caterpie? And one of them looked different. He couldn't help but point it out... "Whoa. You have some bright colors there, pal!" he smiled at the lone Caterpie, seemingly ignoring the middle Caterpie that had addressed him.
Nikki quickly burst into the clearing shortly after, leaves and small twigs sticking out of her hair and clinging to her clothes. Nope, a forest girl she did not make. She stumbled up to Torch, slightly panting from the little game of chase she had found herself in. "Please ... don't do that ... again ... woo ..." she managed to spit out between gasps. It took her a minute to notice the four new Caterpie standing only a few feet in front of them. "O-oh!", she gasped, "I hope we're not like intruding or, or, ... something." she rambled on, not knowing what exactly to say. She had no idea of what exactly she had managed to stumble upon.
"So what are all of you doing? Huh? Is this like a meeting? Huh?" Torch questioned. Nikki stared down at her Charmander in wonder. He was certainly a nosy little guy, that was for sure. But to be honest, she was thinking the same thing too.

The oddly colored Caterpie actually flinched when Torch addressed him, looking at the fire lizard with wide, frightened eyes. It wanted to scoot farther away from the fire Pokemon, but it was too fearful to even move. It was unable to will its several little feet into action.
This caused the other three Caterpie to laugh at it, primarily the Caterpie that seemed to act as the leader of all the normal looking bug Pokemon.
When the odd Caterpie was laughed at, it lowered its head, both sad and ashamed. But it had a right to fear fire Pokemon, didn't it? All bug type Pokemon were weak against fire Pokemon. The other Caterpie knew that, didn't they? Why were they not afraid as well?
"You are intruding," the middle Caterpie said, eying Nikki. How pathetic of a human she must have been to ramble on like that, at least, so thought said Caterpie.
"This isn't a meeting. We're just trying to get this freak out of our forest."

Torch's smile slowly fell into a frown and he tilted his head. He looked at the timid little Caterpie with confusion. He wasn't use to other Pokemon being afraid of him. I mean, he was friendly, wasn't he? Why would anyone be afraid of him? He took a step forward towards the Caterpie, wanting to somehow show that he was friendly.
His attention snapped onto the other bully Caterpie as they began laughing at the odd ball one. He raised a brow in question at first as to how what it had done was funny, then he began to feel a bit flustered at their stuck up attitude towards not only the other Caterpie but him and Nikki as well. "Hey, that wasn't very nice! He's not a freak!" he spoke up with a hint of anger behind his words. "Everyone's a bit different, but that don't make them freaks!" Nikki, who had remained silent for fear of creating a conflict, bent down and laid a hand on Torch's shoulder in an attempt to calm him.
She turned towards the Caterpie as she stood straight and furrowed her brow. It seemed that not even the world of Pokemon was immune to bullies. It was a saddening realization. She felt bad for the little Caterpie; she too had had to deal with cruel taunting herself when she was a bit younger due to her anti-social behavior. "I'm ... I'm sorry for intruding ..." she raised a hand to her lips and bit down on her knuckle hesitantly as she questioned going on. Was arguing with a group of Pokemon really a good idea right now? "...but I think you should be nicer to your fellow Pokemon. This forest seems big enough to share ..." her voice trailed off into an inaudible whisper of sorts and she let her eyes fall to her feet. "Yeah!", Torch added on. Nikki felt strange trying to stick up for someone else, especially when she rarely did so for herself. She prefered to stay silent in the fact of conflict, but this irked her a bit. Perhaps it was because in some ways, she could relate a bit to the odd little Caterpie.

The odd Caterpie looked at the Charmander with a good bit of surprise as the fire Pokemon stood up in its defense against the other three Caterpie. Perhaps the fire Pokemon wasn't all that bad after all. Maybe... But he seemed much more friendly than the other Caterpie that it had ran into. That had to count for something, right?
As such, the green and orange Caterpie scooted in a little closer to the Charmander and the human with him.
"Is it really any of your business?" The leader Caterpie spoke out against Nikki. "Yea, is it?" Another Caterpie added in, while the third one simply nodded its head, agreeing with the others that it absolutely wasn't. "This isn't your forest, either. What are you going to do about it?"
"Do not... Do not pull them into this," the odd Caterpie finally stated. "T-they have nothing to do with it."

Nikki blinked and 'Mmmm...'ed at the Caterpie's words. No, it wasn't her business, she supposed, but she wasn't going to leave. She did have some backbone somewhere ... and with Torch beside her, she felt a bit more confident and able to stand her ground.
She blinked in surprised as the Caterpie they had been standing up for in turn began to stand up for them. She couldn't help but smile at it.
"Let's fight!" Torch suddenly blurted out at the trio of Caterpie. Nikki nearly fell backwards in surprise at the sudden challenge from him. "Wait, what?! Torch! A-are you sure?!" she exclaimed nervously, not sure how well it would turn out with 3 against 1 if they did decide to do battle. Not to mention, she had never lead a Pokemon into battle. Torch looked at her then gave her a firm nod. "I think they need some sense knocked into them!" he growled a bit, turning and glaring at the Caterpie, mainly the middle one.

As the Charmander challenged the group of three Caterpie that had been picking on the orange and green one, one of them began to look very nervous about fighting a fire type. The single Caterpie, the one to the right of the one in the middle, dipped its head down, as if submitting to the Charmander. "You two are on your own," it said quietly, before turning tail and hurrying into the bushes.
That left two of the three Caterpie left, but even two on one wouldn't be very fair. "I will fight with you," said the odd-looking Caterpie, looking over to Torch. "It will be a two-on-two battle."

Wild Caterpie One may make the first move, followed by Torch, Oddball Caterpie and Wild Caterpie Two.
The wild Caterpie One, the Caterpie that had seemingly been the leader of the others, scoffed. "You honestly think you can beat us?" It said, though its glaring eyes were locked onto the unusual Caterpie.
It lunged forward at the Oddball Caterpie then, using Tackle.
Oddball Caterpie lost 1 HP!
However, the unusual Caterpie stood its ground, not even having been knocked back at all.

Nikki felt a little relieved when one of the three Caterpie decided to turn tail instead of fighting. That would make their chances better, hopefully. She felt even better when the oddball Caterpie had decided to fight along side Torch. Those odds she liked better.
Torch smiled at the oddball Caterpie as it took the attack well. He turned toward Nikki with determination in his eyes. Nikki began scrambling through her thoughts. Oh how she wished Torch knew some fire attacks because it would have made the fight easier. She instead fell back onto one attack she knew all Charmander knew. "Um, try a Scratch attack, Torch!" she clapped her hands together and brought them up to her mouth in anticipation.
Torch growled "Right!" and charged at the second Caterpie. He threw up a clawed hand and swiped strongly toward the Caterpie.

The Caterpie that Torch charged at attempted to jump backward, but it failed to escape the claws of the Charmander. The attack seemed to do some serious damage, sending the small bug type backward on impact.
Caterpie Two lost 6 HP! It has 6 HP remaining.
It was also time for the unusually colored Caterpie to take its turn. It sped forward as fast as its little feet would carry it, jumping at the first Caterpie. When it got close, it bit down on the other Caterpie fairly hard before jumping back again. It had chosen to use Bug Bite.
Caterpie One lost 3 HP!
The second Caterpie managed to get up again, even after Torch's fairly devastating attack. It shook itself off and then decided on which of the two Pokemon to attack. Since its leader was focusing on the odd looking Caterpie, it would do the same. It moved in for a Tackle attack, slamming into the other Caterpie with all of its might.
Even so, the orange and green Caterpie didn't seem to take much damage from that attack either.
Oddball Caterpie lost 1 HP!
The second Caterpie, by this point in time, was getting very annoyed at the 'freak' of a Caterpie, knowing that it wasn't taking much damage. Its eyes narrowed then, deciding to switch targets. Its Tackle attack was directed at Torch, throwing itself into the fire Pokemon.
Hit! Torch lost 2 HP!

Nikki jerked a bit as Torch's attack hit home and threw the small Caterpie backwards. She balled a hand into a fist and wrapped her other around it in mixed feelings. That Scratch attack had to hurt the smaller bug Pokemon but at the same time, she would rather see her Charmander come out the victor. She bit her bottom lip and called out to her partner, "Awesome, Torch! Nice going!" The least she could do was become a cheerleader!
She held back a gasp and winced slightly as the two enemy Caterpie seemed to double team the green and orange one. Then even more so when one decided to go for Torch. Getting thrown a bit off balance by the Caterpie's Tackle, Torch stumbled backwards with a "Gah!", but he seemed to quickly regain his posture. "Um, Scratch again, Torch! Get 'em!" Nikki exclaimed anxiously. Torch obeyed and ran toward the same target as his previous attack. Hopefully keeping on the offensive would bring a swift victory.

The second Caterpie was no match for Torch's Scratch attack, the Charmander hitting it again with its claws. The Pokemon tumbled backward. It didn't move right away, but it attempted to get up before long. It managed to get up, only to lay back down again. It was too weak to continue fighting.
Caterpie Two lost 6 HP! It is unable to battle!
Seeing that the tables had turned, the green and orange Caterpie was anxious to wrap things up. It actually felt pity for the first fallen Caterpie, but the fighting had been brought on by them in the first place, right? Right. It had to keep that in mind. If it didn't fight them, then they would have kept teasing it.
The odd Caterpie lunged at the last Caterpie standing from the other team, this time throwing all of its weight into a Tackle attack.
The defending Caterpie took the attack, sending its own Tackle attack right on back!
Caterpie One lost 3 HP! It has 10 remaining HP!
Oddball Caterpie lost 1 HP!
