"Oh my!", Nikki gasped in amazement, "Such a beautiful sight!" She was talking about the scenery, more or less. Torch, who stood by her side in just as much awe as she, wildly nodded in agreement. "It looks like ... adventure!" he exclaimed and clenched his tiny hands together tightly. He went to take off as he usually did when he got overly excited about things, which was quite often as Nikki was beginning to realize, but she quickly stopped him with a gentle pat on the head. "And here I thought Charmander where mellow! Ha!" she laughed aloud at her misconception. She was quickly learning that Torch was quite a handful, especially for a fairly laid back gal like herself. But she was certain she could manage fine. Opposites were supposed to attract, right? Torch looked up at his trainer with wide eyes full of curiosity. "Why did you want to come to this island, Nikki?" Nikki glanced down at him with a soft smile and simply shrugged. There was no real reason. Well, other than she just figured that she might as well check this place out while she had the time. Wasn't that what most trainers did these days? Explore many different places for the heck of it? It was something she wasn't too sure about but she had decided to give it a try. "I wonder what all is on this island. Might as well take a little scenic stroll, I suppose. Want to?" Torch nodded as she expected he would. He loved getting out and about everywhere. "Let's go this way!" He pointed in the westward direction and took off in a brisk walk. Nikki giggled at his childlike intention span, but followed behind.

In minutes, Torch had led them to an area where there was what appeared to be a small stream. The waters looked so inviting to Nikki's aching feet that she couldn't resist and stopped to sit on a nearby boulder. Torch walked over to her as she sat down and laid her bag next to the rock.
"Awww, why are we stopping so soon, Nikki?" She glanced up at him with a sad smile. "I'm sorry Torch, but my feet are killing me. I'm afraid I'm not too used to traveling much." she apologized. Back home at the breeding center her and her mom ran, she was usually put in charge of the paper work or other low-physical tasks. Usually, the most traveling she ever did was to the stores for supply runs. Torch pouted a bit but didn't argue. Nikki quickly slid her shoes and socks off and walked over and gently sat on the bank. She slowly dipped her feet into the cool running water and shivered a bit at the cold touch. She relaxed herself and let out a sigh of contentment.
Torch tilted his head and walked over to sit beside Nikki. Glancing over to him, Nikki felt a bit bad that she had stopped. She wished she could keep up more with Torch's boundless energy. She reached out and rubbed his head. "You're a bit too energetic for me.", she laughed jokingly, "You like to explore, don't you?" Torch nodded and laughed. "Of course! It's so exciting seeing all these new places! I never got to go anywhere back at the Lab. I had to wait for a trainer to pick me. That's why I was so happy you picked me!" Nikki blushed a bit and smiled happily at him. "I'm flattered that you're happy with me. Maybe when ...", she paused with worry, "... I mean, well, if I can ever find a way back home, you could explore my hometown. Goldenrod City is a huge place with many things to do. I bet you'd like it there."
Torch lit up with excitement. "Oh I hope, I hope, I hope! I wanna see where you're from!" he cooed dreamily. Nikki chuckled and began swinging her feet lightly in the water. Thinking about home and her mother made her sad but only strengthed her determination to get back. Surely if this region was acessable, one was able to leave it as well ...

A gentle breeze wafted the sweet scent of flowers over the area, catching hold of Nikki's attention. She straightened up and looked around. "Oh..~", she giggled, closing her eyes and deeply breathing in the wonderful smell. "What a lovely smell. I wonder if there are any gardens around." Flowers were always a nice thing to come across, or so thought Nikki.
Torch looked around as she mentioned one. "I don't see any. There might be one further away though!", he smiled, jumping up hopefully. "You wanna go find it?" He was hoping she would say yes. Sitting around enjoying the peace and quiet of nature wasn't really his fancy. He liked to get up and move around. Nikki glanced over at him and nodded after a few silent seconds. "Sure." She had gotten some rest so it wouldn't hurt to start up again, she supposed.
Torch practically began running circles around her as she got around to putting her shoes and socks back on. Looking up, she began to wonder if the island was even inhabited ... by anyone. The only people she had seen had been the people who ran the hot air balloon service that had allowed her to get here. Surely someone or something had to live on this island. It would be a tad creepy to be wandering about on a deserted isle...
Slipping her last shoe on, she stood and slung her satchel strap back over her shoulder. "Let's get going then. Maybe there's a little field of flowers nearby we could admire." she sighed, though it was a happy one. The Charmander nodded happily and they both started in the direction of the sweet smell of flowers.

The pair had followed the scent as best they could until they happened across what appeared to be a small garden at first glance. And it wasn't looking like a small spontaneous wild patch that decided to spring up, seeing as there were small rocks aligned neatly around the area. Nikki looked around, expecting to see maybe a house, or at the very least another person. Huh ... well that's a little odd... she spoke in a bit of a hushed tone. Torch looked up at her, eyes full of endless question. "What's odd?" "Well, I mean usually where there is a small patch of garden like this, there's usually someone around who takes care of it, waters it, all that." She pointed at the arranged rocks littered around the flowers. "See? I've seen people do that for decorative purposes. So I'm finding it a bit odd ...", Nikki explained to her friend. Torch mouthed an "Ohh!" and nodded. "That is strange ... but not too much." Nikki raised an eyebrow. "Huh?" "Well, a few of us Pokemon back at the lab, when we got let out in the forest for some exercise, we used to go out and make random little things.", he raised a claw to his chin, recalling one of those times, "And I remember a little Bulbasaur and Chikorita would always make their own little flowerbeds sort of like this and plant flowers around everywhere. They said they liked the sight and smells it made.", he shrugged. He hadn't understood why they had obsessed over flowers, but it chalked it up to being a Grass Pokemon thing. Nikki scrunched up her nose to hold in a giggle. She'd never heard of Pokemon doing that before. But then again, what did a 16 year old girl who stayed put at home know? She had helped her mother watch over Pokemon back home, and all she could recall about Grass Pokemon was that they usually hung out near flowerbeds ... But making one? She hadn't seen that before. Perhaps when wild Pokemon got bored enough, it was entertainment. She could only wonder. [[Making up things as I go. ; -hides-]]

The question of what had built the garden was answered soon enough, at least, so it seemed. A singing voice suddenly could be heard coming toward them and the garden. "Bulba-Bulba-Bulbasaur~ Bulba-Bulba-Bulbasaur~" Just than, a young Bulbasaur wandered in from between some trees, leading a peculiar colored Shroomish and an Oddish. All three of them marched in a line, swaying back and forth to the Bulbasaur's song. The Bulbasuar's vines were extended, holding a pretty up-rooted flower. The Shroomish was holding a rock that it must have found which was shaped somewhat like a heart, while the Oddish was holding something that looked like a large hallowed-out fruit shell, carrying water. The three were so busy minding their own business, that they didn't even take notice of Nikki or Torch.

The strange song reached Nikki's ears and she stepped back, taken back the sound. "What's that?" Torch was the first to spot the trio and pointed toward them, making no effort to stay unknown. "Look over there!"
Nikki soon saw the Grass Pokemon and let out a little "Eep!". For some reason, her first instinct was to hide herself. She quickly looked around for something large enough she could hide behind. Spotting a tree, she started tiptoeing toward it quickly, but unfortunately for Nikki, Torch wasn't as shy. Before she thought to grab for him to follow, she heard him call out to the Pokemon: "Hi there, guys! Is that your garden?"
Nikki stopped dead in her tracks and threw her hands over her face with a whine. "Oh Torch ..." Maybe they wouldn't see her ... but she was certain they would have heard Torch. He had a large voice for a little Pokemon.

Standing there a few awkward seconds, Nikki uncovered her face and turned toward the three grass Pokemon. Oh good, they still hadn't seemed to notice them. She quietly spun around and went back to Torch. She bent down and grabbed his shoulders.
"What are you doing? Come on, let's hide!", she whispered frantically. Torch shot her a strange look. "Huh? Hide? Why should we hide?" Huh ... that was a good question. Nikki searched her brain for an answer. "W-well, umm .. I ... you ... well ..." Torch cut off her rambling with a chuckle. "They won't hurt us!", he said confidently, "We should go say hi!"
Nikki whined hesitantly before finally nodding yes. She stood and the pair slowly approached the Pokemon. As they got closer, Nikki was able to make out what all three were carrying. So it had been them who made the garden. She fought back a giggle at how cute she found it. She also noticed the Shroomish. It looked a little ... bright, but then again, she hadn't seen many Shroomish. Kanto and Johto region Pokemon were the norm for Nikki, as she saw quite a lot of them, but these other two regions Pokemon were a bit new to her. She had been studying the regions on and off before she had been brought here, but she wasn't an expert on it all yet.
As always, Torch was the first to greet everyone. "Hello! My name's Torch and this..", he said, making a wild gestured back at Nikki, "..is Nikki, my trainer!" Nikki smiled and waved at them shyly. Pokemon or not, she was still shy when it came to meeting and greeting new faces. "We were just walking by and stopped to admire your garden." "Yes, it's v-very lovely.", Nikki managed to choke out.

The three grass Pokemon were seemingly oblivious to their guests up until the point the two began to chatter more frequently, and it was the Shroomish that noticed them first. It broke from its place in line to run in front of the Bulbasaur and the Oddish. It didn't appear to be aggressive, but it seemed to be rather protective of its friends. \
When the mushroom Pokemon broke from the line, the Bulbasaur had stopped singing and it and the Oddish glanced over to where their companion was looking. The Bulbasaur, surprisingly, smiled, while the Oddish made the choice to hide behind both of its friends.
The Shroomish was wary of the Charmander and the human, the Charmander, of course, because its type was so much stronger versus grass types, which the three of them all were. However, it deemed them friendly once they came forth and greeted them. "It is... nice to meet you," it said, while the Bulbasaur jumped in with a pleasant, "Hello!" It was the Oddish that was shy, only just poking out from around the Bulbasaur to mummer its stammered greeting, "H-hello..."
"Why thank you!" The blub Pokemon said, stepping around the Shroomish and exposing the Oddish in the process. "I am so very glad that you like our garden."
"We worked quite hard on it," added the Shroomish.
The Oddish simply nodded, trying its best not to spill any of the water it carried in the process. "Y-yes, we did..."

When the small Shroomish took a defensive posture in front of the other two, Nikki slowed a bit. She had hoped it wouldn't want to battle. She felt bad for startling both the Oddish and the Shroomish, but at least the Bulbasaur seemed calm. Apparently, Torch being a fire type was a bit unnerving for the Shroomish, as it seemed to be more nervous of him than of herself.
As they responded with their own hellos, she smiled. She then noticed the shy little Oddish and bent down, hoping she would seem less scary. "Hello there. Please don't be frightened." Her voice was soft, like when she would greet baby Pokemon back at the Breeding Center. She then looked at the other two, more talkative ones. "Well, it is lovely. The effort certainly shows. And it smells lovely as well." Torch nodded in agreement, though gardens weren't really his thing.
Noticing the Oddish with the water, Torch walked over to it and held out his hands. "Would you like me to carry that?", he offered.

Nikki looked over at Torch with surprise. "Um, Torch? A-are you sure that's a good idea?" The fire Pokemon looked at his trainer, confused. "What do you mean?"
"Well, dear, you are a fire Pokemon. If you were to slip or something, couldn't it hurt you?" Her worry was just, wasn't it? It was common sense that fire types were weakened by water. Torch blinked, thinking it over, then simply shrugged. "I'm not too worried." Nikki sighed at her partner's lack of concern for his own health. It would seem that she would have to do the worrying for both of them...
Putting that little conversation onto a side burner, Nikki looked back at the three grass Pokemon with some interest. "So, would you like some help with your garden?", Nikki offered. It wasn't like they had any plans to tend to right now, so why not help them out? That was, if they even wanted help. Nikki began to rethink her offer as she wondered if they would only be pestering them. "Well, if you want, that is. I don't want to be a bother.", she laughed awkwardly. She couldn't help but feel that way; unless someone straight up asked her for something, she would always feel awkward and out of place in things. Call it a personality flaw ... or an unusual quirk.

The little Oddish seemed alright with Nikki, nodding its head slowly again. It wasn't frightened of her, but it was too shy to answer Torch right away. In fact, for it, it was a chore in itself not to scoot away from the fire type just because he was a fire type. After listening to the Charmander and his trainer, however, the little weed Pokemon seemed to change its mind. "I-if you would like to carry it...I wouldn't mind," it said, holding out the hollowed shell containing the water that it had gathered for when they replanted the up-rooted flower that the Bulbasaur carried.
The Bulbasaur, itself, seemed quite pleased that Nikki and Torch wanted to help. "I think it would be fun if you helped. What do you think?" It asked, looking over to the oddly colored Shroomish. "I don't think it would hurt, no," it replied. When it looked to Nikki it nodded, "Yes. You're welcome to join us."
"We were planning to plant this flower. Maybe you could find a good spot for it?" The bulb Pokemon suggested.

With a happy smile plastered upon his face, Torch quickly scooped up the hollowed shell, sending the water inside slushing around. A few drops made it out of the shell and made Nikki gasp. "Oh Torch, be careful!" Instinctively, her hands shot out in a jerking motion, ready to catch the falling shell.
Torch managed to steady the shell and himself. "Don't worry, I got it!" Biting her bottom lip, Nikki refrained from helping and hoped his balance was good.
She smiled shyly in response to their acceptance and nodded. At the Bulbasaur's suggestion, she leaned down to inspect the flower. "Ah, okay." She turned to the garden with a thinking expression and slowly pointed to a small space between two bright red flowers. "I think it would look nice here." Her finger quickly changed direction. "Oh, or maybe here?" Indecisive as always. Torch let out a chuckle. "A Gardener you do not make.", he joked.
Nikki looked up and blushed with a nervous giggle. "Haha... I know. I was never very good at gardening. Well, aside from watering, that is."

"So, do all grass Pokemon like gardening?", Nikki asked in a feeble attempt at striking up conversation. She probably sounded a fool, but it was better than just standing there silent.
She was never very good at it - conversation, that is ... and lacked the experience especially when it came to Pokemon. But now that she could understand the creatures, she didn't see any harm in asking little easy questions that most humans probably thought about on an uneventful day. "Sorry if that question was a little ... odd..."
Next to the flowers, Torch laid the shell down, careful to position it to where it wouldn't spill. The small task wasn't enough to occupy Torch for long, and he soon found himself staring at the Shroomish's heart shaped rock. He was about to offer his services again, but the rock drew his interest more. "Oh, that rock is interesting!", he said to the Shroomish, fighting the urge to just reach out and touch it. Simple things like that certainly amused him.

The Oddish flinched instinctively when the Charmander took a hold of the shell full of water and it began to slosh around. It had worked so very hard not to drop any of the water on their travel that it feared Torch dropping any of it now. However, it felt more at ease once he seemed to get a handle on things.
"You know, I think right between those red flowers is a good idea," the Bulbasaur said, going with Nikki's first choice.
"It is often wise to go with your first instinct," the Shroomish added.
"Your question isn't odd," the bulb Pokemon went on to say. "After all, that is how one gets to know the answers to things. My father always use to say that if you never ask questions, you'll never know anything!" It seemed quite proud to be reciting it's father's words of wisdom.
The group of grass Pokemon watched as the fire type managed to get the water all settled, but they only began to walk toward the flowers, themselves, when Torch found his way back to the Shroomish. The odd Pokemon smiled, holding the rock out just a little bit farther so that he could get a proper look. "I thought so as well," it said. "We enjoy finding rocks that look like certain shapes. Do you see the heart as well?"

"Oh? I shall keep that in mind then.~", Nikki chuckled at the Shroomish's advice. Strangely, it made her happy. Her mother told her that constant, though she rarely took it into account.
Nikki smiled as she listened to the Bulbasaur. It was strange to hear Pokemon talk of their parents. She knew that all Pokemon had to have them, but that truth often escaped her. "You're father sounds very wise."
Torch nodded in response. "Oh yes, I do see the heart!" Unable to resist any longer, Torch reached out and stroked the rock as gently as he could muster, then traced the shape of a heart within it. It was smooth to the touch and he let out an amused "Ohhh~"
[Blah post, sorry. Dx]
